We accidentally shot a dummy torpedo at a cruise ship during TRE. We were off the coast of the Bahamas and simulating an attack run on a Carnival Cruise ship.
Thought the tube was empty, ordered a water slug and shot the dummy right out.
Had to secure the drill, surface, and sit for 4 hours while a helicopter came to scoop the torp out of the water.
Got buzzed by a P-3 while sitting there

So you were a nuke? Please tell me you were an electrician.
My first NAM:
We were making preps to get underway the next day. My chief tells me to take my NUB back to the hydraulic plant and show him how to start it up. I go back with my NUB-ly friend, hand him the procedure, and tell him to do it. He's lining everything up and I'm keeping an eye on him. He starts up the hydraulic pumps and I notice one of the motors starts smoking. I tell him to shut everything down and I find the first electrician and tell him "go fix your fricking motor, shitbag".
I go home and E-div stays all night swapping out the motor. The next morning right before we leave the pier the CO gives me a medal. Man if you could have seen the stares I got from those electricians.

Did you not read our stories? We all suffer from PTSD from our numerous brushes with death. Dick-ishness is a side effect of that.

That is hilarious.
I take it Carnival had no idea they were involved in y'all's training op?
We got ordered to go close to a US flagged seismic seismic survey ship (R/V Marcus Langseth) off of country X one time due to Country X trying to play big boy and harassing the ship. I had no idea at the time what ship it was.
Fast forward to my undergraduate days in geophysics and I'm doing a research cruise on the Langseth banging seismic lines over the Marianas Trench. The engineer proceeds to tell a story to me about how in early 2009 they were harassed by country x's navy. I was just thinking to myself at that time "damn, the Charlotte was protecting this very ship I'm on now 3 years ago and they had no idea". Really small world.

I was an electrician. Not as much work as M Div but certainly not a dainty arse pussy fgt RC div guy.

Nice pics, Terd. It looks like that would buff right out.

Did the torpedo strike the ship?

A brief description of nukes
ELT's... Cool guys, most likely to be hipsters today
M-div... Kinda grimey smart kids, does funny shite when drunk
EM's... Thinks he's cool but sorta weird. Usually pretty good at soccer
ET/RC's... Avoid at all costs, Jesus those guys are creepy as shite

That might be the most accurate description of nukes I've ever seen. Well done.
I do love soccer.

No, it was not "spun up" so it did not run when it was shot out of the tube. Dummy Torps have no explosives loaded and are designed to float to the surface after being run. When this one was "fired" it simply floated to the surface.

Maybe it's cause I was an electrician but this photo makes me sad. No shorepower meaning us poor nukes still had the reactor at power while tied up :(.

M-div were usually alright. I'd get them to do shite for me in the ER so I never had to go aft of that watertight door.
E-div usually hated me. Between me blaming their shite for making my equipment not work correctly (pump motors, EOG problems, etc), yelling at them for dirtying up my room with their generator cleaning, and stealing all their tools (I still have tools in my toolbox at home with E-DIV engraved on the side) they would usually avoid me whenever possible.
Pretty much all nukes were weird as frick though.

I'm pretty sure this photo was taken almost immediately after we tied up to the pier. I'm sure they were getting ready to hook it up.

When I was in nuke school (Orlando), we had an ET get himself escorted back to base by Orlando PD.
Dude was wandering around downtown Orlando carrying a dog muzzle/leash and wearing nothing but a "Steak n Shake" apron.
Suprisingly he was not processed out and when he advanced to prototype in Charleston, he was dubbed "Dog Boy" for the rest of his training
