I don’t have a major issue with that.

Though something to be said for a “for the masses” option and if willing to pay extra, ups and fedex be the pay extra for a huge influx of seasonal workers option that guarantees fast delivery no matter what

Several things are at play. First, the USPS is far too cheap. Currently first class postage is 50 cents for a letter. The same service at UPS or FedEx is 20 times that! 20 times! Second, due to Covid and the unexpected exponential growth of online shopping, the USPS has faced unprecedented volume. In part due to political games this summer, the USPS was not allowed to increase employment. Obviously, this was bad for morale, as workers have been overworked, underpaid, and working extremely long hours for months. It takes a toll.

There’s also a handful of hubs getting hammered by covid quarantines at the moment.

Volume way up and number of employees way down (covid and lack of seasonal staffing) is a recipe for disaster

Exact same thing happened to me for a gift that was supposed to be delivered 12/7. USPS just stopped updating the tracking.

Submitted an inquiry on the site, too them almost a week to get back to me with a "we don't know where your package is" and directions to file a lost claim.

UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon ALL manage to deliver shite to me on time, and with accurate updates to the online tracking.

USPS? Who knows. They probably sent my shite to Mongolia.

I ordered something that shipped out on 12/3. It started off in San Clemente and just bounced around southern Cal for a few weeks. The last update told me the same as you (will arrive late) and my package was still in Bell Gardens, CA on 12/19. Wake up this morning and all of a sudden, the package is in NOLA

FedEx is almost just as bad.

You just aren't paying the right price for shipping. I ship packages for my company all over the globe. I can get a package from Ft Worth to Kazakhstan in about 3 days. Now it sits in their customs for a while, but that isn't my problem.

This season?

I have a package that was shipped from Knoxville, TN on Dec. 13th. After 10 days it has made it to Memphis, TN.

I’ve never seen a shirt walk on it’s own but I’m guessing my shirt is walking here.

I’ve switched to FedEx Ground over USPS priority mail. It get there quicker and is more reliable and inexpensive.

Nothing but the truth.

Kudos to the postal workers, they’re working their asses off.

I’ve received all my packages. Most were a week or 2 late but I planned for it and the last thing I ordered for delivery was on 12/8- knowing things were nuts right now.

Defund usps, and let fedex/ups pick up the load.

You do understand that fed ex & ups drop shite off to USPS to deliver all the time right? That’s actually part of the problem right now.

I sent out 250 or so Christmas cards and haven’t seemed to have any issues. All of my gifts from Amazon have arrived on time and most were finalized by USPS.

I understand everyone has an issue from time to time, but shipping problems are not unique to USPS nor do they happen any more with them than the private carriers, in my experience. Most shippers I read seem to be happy with USPS as well.

My local carrier is the best.

She showed up with a package before Thanksgiving and Mom came and got me because the carrier was in such pain she could hardly move. Lower right quadrant anterior rebound pain mostly. Classic symptom of appendicitis.

She took my advice since she couldn't legally leave her postal vehicle on private property and drove to Minor ER within a mile of us. While she called another carrier to retrieve the vehicle, the walk in ER started tests. Turns out she had 2 huge kidney stones that were completely blocking her right side ureter and some other problems that needed to be addressed too.

Mom had some important time sensitive mail coming in the next couple of weeks. Carrier was still off recovering from emergency surgeries (plural, the other issues were being addressed too since she was already down anyway). Mom gets emails daily from USPS of what's coming that day, literal images of each letter, so when some of the time sensitive stuff was imaged as arriving and 3 days later still not in our box she called the regular carrier. That woman got of bed and went and found it at the PO in the back of a vehicle and drove it over to hand deliver to Mom personally.

While the rank and file majority of USPS employees may be crap, we've got a shining star for a local carrier!

If UPS didn’t have the opportunity to defer to USPS for small package deliveries, they’d be fricked. They’re already super overwhelmed here at the Louisville hub due to the uptick in distribution this season.

They also can’t access rural areas like USPS.

Friend,

What a great story. Every single USPS worker I know goes above and beyond. I don’t have any heroic stories like yours, but my carrier too is a hero in his faithfulness to the cause of bringing us correspondence with our dear friends. I hope everyone got their mailmen and mailwomen grand gifts for Christmas this year. They’ve earned it.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I mailed a 2-day priority envelope on 12/17 it arrived at its destination post office this morning. As long as it gets to the destination before New Years, I should be ok but its for E&O insurance so a little worried

Ordered some nose flutes to accompany our annual Christmas Eve kazoo fest and paid more than the cost of the item for 2-day shipping. Shipped on the 17th and still not in, and we're on the road so won't have it for tonight. Tracking says it's been in NOLA for a couple days now.
