They probably had it by Thursday and just got around to delivering it on Sunday.

only major PnDC centers.
Baton Rouge pndc and New Orleans and Laffayette are all major so all the areas they serve through those production and distribution centers would be serviced.
Mailmen like it too, because they get time and a half, and that bumps their annual average.
Pension for a postal worker at 25 years retirement is 60% of the average of the top three yearly incomes.(for life) So detail pay and overtime are taken into effect.

Just looked out my door and saw the package from Amazon. Bizarre having anything delivered on a Sunday.
I just assumed it was a mistake when I ordered Friday and they said it would be here today. I am also in Lafayette.

I got a Sunday delivery a few weeks ago from them. And I live way out in the sticks

another thing about Express mail and Sunday delivery, is it's not only mailmen (level 7-8 employees) delivering.
They will have managers and higher ups deliver too, if they are short staffed.

USPS delivered an amazon package to me in the major city of Denham Springs today.

Hired a bunch of low wage part-timers to make the deliveries.

I have Chick-fil-A delivered to my house by USPS each Sunday.
Just to mess with the space-time continuum.

My understanding is USPS and Amazon have a deal where contractors, not USPS carriers, deliver Amazon packages. These contractors do not deliver regular US Mail.

Part timers "casuals" don't wear uniforms. So if they are wearing street close it's a "casual" employee, if they are in uniform it's not.

Your understanding is not correct.
Mail isn't delivered on Sundays but the USPS runs 24/7. All they did was put a minimal amount of carriers on a tour 1 shift on Sunday.
They only deliver Amazon and Express mail on Sunday.

It's gonna phase into all part-timers.
