There's actually a term that's not that far off from what you're describing called the Tocqueville Effect.

Very interesting thing to read about.

That is a fantastic analogy.

I don't think it'll get that extreme but there is no doubt that people have had it so good for so long in this country that they could even begin to worry about some of the social issues that have become so prominent within the last couple years which is a key tenet of the Tocqueville Effect.

Another key tenet is that as "the regime" provides more concessions to these demands for social reforms that the demands will only continue and will include smaller and more myopic concerns.

Do either of those sound painfully familiar?

You wouldn't have to change PI, they already have male and female recruits training somewhat side by side. So what would you even have to change at San Diego? Just put some of the female recruits in the vacant squad bays. This sounds like a push to spend money where money doesn't need to be spent.

We have.

Political experiments and social engineering are more important than lethality.

I take your point. My retort would be that an all-volunteer military in a nation full “of hubris and apathy” has no business turning away qualified candidates that proactively want to serve.

Now, I certainly wouldn’t want to put my life in the hands of someone graded on a physical curve, but there is less hand-to-hand, boots-on-the-ground combat now than in any other time in world history. Surely there are roles within the branches’ structures that could benefit from women and their individual strengths.

Just spoke with some engineers who currently work at Parris Island. They said this won't happen for at least another 2 decades.

Also the Gov has too much money invested in Parris Island. My company is currently modernizing the firing range at Parris Island and that itself is a 40 million dollar contract. This is the 3rd 30-40 million dollar range modernization contract we've been awarded in the last 5 years.

Any areas or current bases in Louisiana that our state could push as options for a new training base? I assume the income from such a base would be a nice addition to our economy.

Damn. Anyone know if there any non-coed boot camp/basic training stations left in the military?

This is the Marines. They're not just flying drones. The infantry is as dirty a job as it's ever been and combat loads have increased not decreased.

This is politics. He says the words “close those bases” and the legislators go into instant overdrive to plus up the USMC budget. He knows exactly what he is doing.

What, you don't have to pull targets anymore! I asked an army guy about rifle range duty a few years ago and he looked at me like I was crazy.

You mean people had to mark targets at one time like in the Sargent York movie???
