The Marine Corps is considering a plan in which it could close its two existing boot camp locations and funnel all recruits to a new base where men and women would train together.

Marine entry-level training is a long way off from being able to meet a congressional mandate to make its East and West coast training bases both able to support gender-integrated training in the coming years, the Corps' top general said on Thursday.

But with a new law bearing down on the service to make both locations support coed training -- within five years at Parris Island and eight at San Diego -- the Marine Corps is exploring different options, Maj. Eric Flanagan, Berger's spokesman told Military.com.

"The question becomes, 'Are we better off just using [military construction] dollars to create a new third site, or put that money into our existing sites?'" he said. "No decisions have been made. We're not investing any money anywhere else. It's just an option we're talking about."

Thinking about the Beaufort area without Parris Island is sad.

They won’t close them completely, they will just move the recruit parts of them and have a base specifically for recruits.

Going to look like Camp Arthur Currie from "Starship Troopers" with co-ed showers and shite?

I wasn't in the military, but what would the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island have left without recruits?

When I used to play golf every day, we played from the ladies' tees every now and then, and it was amazing.

I look forward to a Marine Corporation full of recruits that went thru boot camp designed for women to pass. Give me 10 pushups from your knees, maggot! Walk around that obstacle, maggot!

Just stick them all in the same barracks with the same bathrooms. Treat them all exactly the same. No more male and female standards. Everyone must do the same.

This nation man

We developed lot of hubris and apathy that came from living so comfortably and from our apathy we left weak, incompetent pricks to handle the steering wheel.

I attended the yellow foot prints of Paris Island 37 years ago. I have never been back since outside my mind.

As hard as it is to fathom with modern transportation systems in place and as small as the current USMC really is do we need two independent training institutions in this modern age?

We might be better served with one central new camp that handles the recruits.

I like this new commandant he thinks outside the box.

The cost to retrofit those bathrooms with tampon dispensers alone would make that idea unfeasible.

Air travel is cool. Put them all at Parris Island.

We developed the most lethal fighting force in the history of the planet then decided we would completely undermine it so some blouse can feel good about herself.
