I think the idea is that it was Jordan. But Jordan didn't graduate in 84, he came back and finished in 86. He did get a degree in geography though.

Youngstown, Ohio is further east than the Atlantic port city of Savannah, Georgia.

El Paso, Texas is closer to San Diego, California than it is to Beaumont, Texas.
