A while back wife went and bought a used car, dealership showed her the Carfax and said the vehicle had never been in an accident. Go yesterday to trade it in and of course, yes it has been wrecked. It was not on the Carfax at the time she purchased it.

How in the hell is that legal? Took a huge hit on trade in because of it.

Plot twist: she's the one that wrecked it.

That would be less surprising.

The new kia telluride is nice though.

It’s possible insurance hadn’t reported the accident yet because the claim wasn’t closed yet. Then they settled it after y’all bought the car.

Where should I send the bill for my consultation?

A couple of questions:

Does Carfax carry a guarantee that their data and report is accurate?

What was the source that the dealership used to determine the vehicle was involved in an accident?

Autotech and Carfax both show that the vehicle was in an accident in March of 18. She purchased it in November of 18. Clean Carfax at the time.

might be a dumb question but could it had been bought and resold between the time the carfax report and time your wife bought it? Seems like a long time for a car to sit on a car dealership lot. A lot of the time they will send them to auction before then.

How are accidents classified with CarFax? For example there is a huge difference between an accident where one car smashes into another and where someone bumps into a parked car and the bumper is just replaced with no other damage.

So you bought the car in Nov 18, and you're already trading it in?

That's financially sound.

The stealership showed her a fake carfax. Always look up the CarFax on your own.

Lesson learned, just don’t let your wife make purchasing decisions.

They actually do, it depends on the amount of the claim.

that was less than six months ago. Has nothing to do with punching pennies.

Do you have a copy of the "Clean Carfax report given to you when you bought the vehicle? If so I would contact Carfax, explain the situation, seek an explanation and a date when the March 18 accident was added to that vehicle report. If it was added prior to your purchase go see the dealership. If they will not help, get a lawyer. Sounds like fraud. Also a crime.

If you didn't get and keep a copy of the November report shame on you.

Has everything to do with it. Maybe he paid cash for it? Maybe he bought it at a steal, and broke even selling? Maybe he doesn’t give two fricks what you think?

They either gave him an old copy of the carfax or they edited it and gave him a fake Carfax. Either is fraud.
