It's not. Someone cleared out a nice internet rabbit hole for that quote being attributed to Voltaire. When you trace it back to its erroneous source, you find a speech by some neo nazi guy.

So when you make that quote in a real argument, you will be led by the nose to the misquote and the nazi guy.

The meaning in words lies not in the tongue that speaks them
True, but the issue gets clouded and falls on deaf ears when the above happens.

So, Tacitus.

What discussion? It's grown men crying over someone who disagrees.
Theres been plenty of discussion about her reasonings for doing it, whether those reasons are sound or justifiable, whether or not she should be acting the way she is on the world stage. You CHOOSE to call that discussion emotional ramblings because you don’t actually have anything to add and would just prefer to insult posters whom you disagree with.

quote:

And sentrius saying she doesn't have the right to do that because she's on the US team.
Sentrius never said she didn’t have the right to do it. He said she shouldn’t do so because of her position on the world stage. That’s a perfectly reasonable opinion to have, not emotional ramblings.

quote:

What point? It's been emotional rambling in all of these threads. If I missed a sentient point, forgive me. They are few and far between in these threads.
If you missed them it’s either because you don’t have a counter argument or are too focused on calling people snowflakes.

quote:

Rapinoe doesn't post here. No one can directly call her anything. This board is, however, full of grown men throwing hissy fit a over things like this so they can directly be spoken to.
And instead of actually giving your opinion on the matter you’d rather call people triggered and snowflakes. That speaks either directly to your ability to form an argument or have a debate or your maturity.

I can't think of another reason why she would choose to be this obnoxious- or why as a 33 year-old female voluntarily choose to make herself appear to be 55.

Meh. It would bring unwanted attention.

Most probably wish she didnt do it. They won the biggest tournament in the world and the only news was 1 player making it all about herself.

Instead of the win being celebrated and people learning about the team and growing the sport, we have what we have now

You really want to dig in and tie yourself to guys like this guy?

Rapinoe is an attention whore and nothing more. She’s doing what the media and Hollywood have told her to do in hopes of being the female Kaepernick and get rich off of endorsements. They're not. The right-wing media is shoving it down your throat and you're taking the bait and spewing the same garbage on this site. There's been a thread about them nearly every day since the World Cup started, and they're all littered with utter ignorance of the sport, the team, and the issue at hand. People here still think Rapinoe is kneeling for the national anthem when US Soccer instituted a rule months ago saying she could not do that. People here think she hates this country when she's given several interviews where she has said she loves this country, she just wants it to be better.

How about the dance where they threw the American flag on the ground and she pretended to shite on it?

Yea I can see her patriotism really shining through.

Fact of the matter is the attention they are getting is not because of their victory in the Women's World Cup. It's because a few idiots choose to use their stage to shite on America (Because it's the IN thing to do.) Well they will have to endure all the negativity because they choose to disrespect millions of Americans. On another countries soil. Kinda like them country music kunts did several years ago. That didn't really work out well for them. Hopefully these women experience the same endgame. They make their choices and other Americans make theirs.

You personally may not be, but some of the attitudes expressed in this thread may be. If you have any gay friends, ask them about their journey of coming out and making their sexual preference public. I have a handful of gay friends and they all say it was a very stressful and emotionally draining process that started in their early teens. Think back to middle and high school and some of the comments people would make towards gay people. Think of how a lot of society still views homosexuality, including some of the derogatory words used in these threads. Words hurt, especially to a young adolescent dealing with puberty on top of coming to terms with being gay.

Ignoring all the flag and anthem stuff with this team, there are several on this team that are very openly gay. And I think that's a great thing, and something young gay teens can look up to and find inspiration in. That wasn't something that was accepted back in 1999 when the US team won the World Cup. That team also had a lot of gay players, but they weren't as empowered as this team was to be as open about it. I think that progress is a good thing.

Do you think hurtful words are an experience reserved only for homosexuals?

Of course not, and I don't see how that is relevant.

Because of the athletic ability they were blessed with, these women have a platform most Americans will never get. More power to them for showing young boys and girls that may be struggling with their own sexuality that it's okay to be yourself and love who you want to.

Do you think that she could have a logical or rational discussion with anyone who doesn't think like her? She is the far left (just like the folks on the far far right) that is so set in their thinking that no amount of information shown to her would work. People like her need to be dropped off in the middle of Saudi Arabia with a fresh batch of purple hair and a snack on the arse and told to 'go get em tiger'. And after she is savagely raped and beaten then she might think America isn't so oppressive.

This is a big time yikes from me dog

It's your example of bigotry and oppression. It's extremely irrelevant that it doesn't happen only to them.

The entirety of your post can be summed up that people are using mean words about them, but that can be said for every single group of people you can think of, white males included.
