The filing, citing figures from the USSF's 2015 financial report, says that despite the women's team generating nearly $20 million more revenue last year than the U.S. men's team, the women are paid almost four times less.
Compare 2015 women to 2014 men. It wont be close

This stat isn't what it seems due to the women's team had a world cup last year.
Still I think it has some merit.

But then, the Women's team is actually successful on the field.
So UCONN's women's basketball team should be paid billions if this is the basis of pay, correct?

Want equal pay? Put an equal product on the field

Well, that's a bad argument, as no college athletes get paid...

That makes this a more interesting argument. I would have thought that even with the women's team success, the men's team would be far more profitable. I wonder if these USSF financial report number really tell the whole story on the financial difference between men's and women's soccer? I doubt it.
I remember reading something about the difference in money generated by the men's WC and the women's WC. The men's winner wins like $35 million and the women's winner wins $2 million. All the men's participants, even if you don't make it out of group stage, earn WAY more than the women's champion and it is because of the vast difference in profitability of the two tournaments. FIFA isn't just giving money away for the hell of it.
ETA: saw people above pointing out that 2015 was a WC year for the women and not the men. I'm sure that explains the numbers cited in the article. Plus those are revenue numbers. Compensation is usually tied to profitability, not revenue.

If they want equal pay to men, then they should play against the men. Hell, most of them look like dudes anyways.

lol... The women's team has crushed the men's team in regards to success.

There is a forest in the trees that you're missing.

And yet no one cares enough to pay them as much. Success on the field has nothing to do with how much they are worth.

Right. You make a bad argument, get called out on it, and I'm the one who doesn't see the forest through the trees...
I get your point -- you just used a bad argument.

You are basically saying McDonalds is better than Ruths Chris because McDonalds does better against their competition

Not surprising, since it was a Women's World Cup year, in a neighboring country (TV-friendly times) and they ended up winning.
The other 3 years out of 4 though... where's that data?

People would rather watch the men's team lose than watch the women's team win.
That must suck for them, but I guess that's the way it goes.

The only one I'd touch is Morgan, maybe Johnston. 2/20 is no bueno, jeffe.

Success and entertainment value are 2 different worlds. And entertainment value is what ultimately brings in $$
