US States broken down by GDP per Capita

Washington DC was by far the highest with over $200,000 per capita. The second place finisher was New York at $90,000. Lowest is Mississippi at $40,000.
Generally the states with the largest, oldest cities rank higher than those states with smaller cities. There is also some correlation to costs of living.
Interestingly enough, Washington DC's per capita GDP ranks higher than Monaco despite not being home to any major Fortune 500 companies. Louisiana's GDP per capita is higher than Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, or Florida. Texas also ranks a bit lower than some would expect - but this is a per capita rating, not a total GDP comparison where Texas would likely score near the top.

DC is more than twice as high as the next place finisher?
That place is a fricking cesspool.

Until DC is destroyed, nothing changes.
Your representative should be required to live in the community they represent and can vote via distance.

This is why we need a revolution in this country.

I take it this is based on residence and not where the people work. There is no housing for poor people in D.C.

Public servants have to get paid for serving the public.

Ever been there? Ever driven through Brentwood or Deanwood?

Problem is the only thing they are serving is themselves

Would be interesting to see the GDP per capita to cost of living ratio for all the states.

How many people in this thread will confuse GDP with income and think that the average person in DC is pulling in $200k?

That seemed odd until I looked up GDP

I guess because of the “services” produced?

So La is first in the South! Since Tx and Ga aren't the south.

DC—has absolutely no industrial , tech ,, financial, or manufacturing jobs. Despite this it has the highest figure by far , doubling New York. It’s all lobbyist money. This is exactly what’s wrong with this county.

They should also move the federal departments out. Break them up and scatter them around the country. Agriculture can be in Nebraska, Energy in Oklahoma, Interior in Colorado, etc.
