hey also have some of the most restrictive gun laws in the US. At least here, fewer guns means fewer shootings.

You can extrapolate that as you will.

I am extrapolating and the answer is training and the will not to shoot as often.

NYC police are arguably the best trained municipal police in the US.

It also helps when the "victim" is an armed felon.

And if they are not? What about 6 year old boys and 7 year old girls killed by rogue marshals and out of control swat teams?

All charges dismissed in the 7 year olds death btw. LINK

I have been to the UK. The USA is a better place to live even with the police shootings.

Then that's tragic and anything that can be done to prevent future occurrences should be done. How many of the 984 deaths were 6 and 7 year olds?

This is what it comes down to. I hate to see anyone killed, but how far do we handicap the police officers we expect to deal with violent criminals on a daily basis? I don't know what the answer is, but one should be sought. Preferably by more intelligent people that I've seen condemning police officers so far.

I understand that there are criminals in law enforcement as much as every other profession. That doesn't meant that 984 children were murdered by police last year. Every one of those cases is tragic, but acting like that is the majority of the numbers is ignorant at best, and malicious at worst.

Give me a few minutes and I will tell you.

The scary thing here is that the court didn't find any crime committed when a swat team entered the wrong apartment, and killed a 7 year old, then proceeded to dismiss the case. Cases like that shatter most hope I have for our judicial system.

I just fricking gave the answer...Training. Train the police not to shoot so readily.

NYPD shoots and kills less than the rest of the US

What sort of experience do you have with this? Much more intelligent people than you with more training and experience, and with access to the same information have come to different conclusions. Congratulations on knowing how to use Google, but if you don't know what you're talking about, don't be a dickhead.

If they are violent then I have no problem with them being shot. If a cop arrives to the situation, tells you to calm down and put your hands up, you should listen. If you disobey them then what happens after that is on you and not them

Yeah I get that. But cops might not shoot a guy who doesn't have a gun even if he's violent.

Then perhaps you can explain the mystery as to why police are consistently under prosecuted compared to their civilian counterparts?

Would you agree that most prosecutors are reluctant to prosecute cops for self-promoting reasons (hurts ability to prosecute, thin blue line etc.)? Do you see a problem with this?

I won't speak to their intentions, because I don't know those any more than you do. Of course I see a problem with that, and I've said similar throughout. How many of those 984 were armed felons. My concern comes to a nearly complete stop on those cases.

I had a partner that had a butcher knife thrown at him and he didn't fire at the suspect. That took some restraint...

NYPD is the best trained force in the US. They have to be because NYC is ground zero for terrorist threats in the US. Despite having all of the big city problems they manage to kill citizens at a much lower rate than elsewhere in the US. It is no coincidence that they can do this...it is the training of their force that does it.

Many of the killings that take place elsewhere across the US are unnecessary.

I never said that. But lets not act like the majority of those 984 deaths were warranted or justified.

Do you really think that a MAJORITY of the 984 people killed by cops were unjustified?

I can understand people guessing that 1 in 20 or even 1 in 10 are questionable, but a majority? Holy shite.
