U.S. News & World Report Global College Rankings for 2026-2027

The 2026-2027 edition also shows how U.S. institutions compare globally. Universities can benchmark themselves against peer institutions in their country, region and around the world, identify potential collaborators, and increase their visibility among international audiences.
Keep in mind that a school’s rank should be one consideration – not the lone determinant – in where a student applies. The rankings assess academic research and reputation, but personal considerations – including location, campus culture, strength of particular programs and cost – are also very important.
To determine eligibility for Best Global Universities, which are powered by Clarivate™, U.S. News created an initial pool of 2,438 universities. Once again, the top 2,250 schools among them – representing 105 countries – were ranked.
To create the initial pool, U.S. News first included the top 250 universities in the results of Clarivate's global reputation survey, described below. Additional institutions that met a threshold of at least 1,250 papers published from 2020 to 2024 were also added. Those criteria created the roster of institutions that U.S. News evaluated.
Many stand-alone graduate schools ineligible for annual Best Colleges rankings were eligible for the Global Universities rankings. Likewise, the methodologies are very different – the ranking factors for Best Colleges use undergraduate-focused metrics like bachelor's degree graduation rates, whereas the ranking factors for Best Global Universities are more research-oriented. Both the different institutional universes and the different methodologies help explain why U.S. universities place differently in each ranking.

LSU should be ranked higher than Tulane. Sure they may have better undergraduates, but our research scope and what we do from the Ag school and all the other research we do more research than Tulane.

We're both toilet bowls in terms of global rankings. It's not like it matters.

Big 8. Rest aren't serious academic schools

This is a comprehensive view of the university and includes research, grad programs, etc. This format heavily knocks schools that are excellent undergraduate institutions but are relatively weaker in grad programs, research, etc. Notice Princeton outside the top 5 even though it is arguably the most difficult institution to get acceptance to in the world.
UW has excellent graduate programs, medical school, etc. World class, in many instances.

Good points.
Rice and Georgetown are in the 200s.

If Rousse and Dalton can successfully merge LSU-BR, Pennington, and both Med Schools under the same unit then LSU will make a massive on paper leap in these kinds of rankings.
