Russia has one aircraft carrier that had to be followed by a tug boat because the engines always fail. Now it’s sunk and they can’t raise it.

Forgive me if I’m not scared of Russia

Yeah, thanks millenials for fighting a war on two fronts for nearly 15 years and getting shite on for "not being tough"

Not sure if serious but carriers are just as vital today as they were in WWII

Missiles can't invade a sovereign nation's shore.

bullshite report... Could we wage a war to take over Russia and or China.. No but why would we? No nation has the broad military capabilities of the US. No nation has the mobility and nobody has the large scale tech we do.. We arent invincible but no country would n their right mind engage the US.

Anyone that knows anything about China's military know they've never been tested and Russia ain't what it used to be

Exactly what I was thinking. If the Germans determined we are too isolated to invade, the dumbass Russians and Chinese can't do it.

As the first poster said, unless they’re invading why are we fighting them?

WWII in the Pacific was fought over trade. Japan never had any intention or capability of invading North America but we found ourselves at war with them nonetheless. Fast forward 80 years and China is on a mission to become the big swinging dick in Asia. Their interests are going to clash with ours more and more. It would behoove us to make sure we have the upper hand.

Not to get overly political, but Trump is skipping a major Asian economic summit this month. China will be there. Not a good look.

You posted in the right place. On the PB they're too scared of a few thousand unarmed refugees to worry about China. And Trump loves Russians so they do too.

I believe it. If there were a draft, we'd need a whole 'nother Army to round up the non-compliers.

Younger people today don't give a shite about "America." They'd rather frick, smoke dope and stuff their face, even if it meant learning a little Mandarin Chinese.

The problem is, their days of fricking, smoking dope and glutting would end, and they'd be sent to the fields to work. Or they would die. They just don't realize that yet.

I know that’s “technically” an aircraft carrier but the common usage of the word “carrier” in America means a super carrier. We use the ones you pictured as amphibious assault craft, not true aircraft carriers.

So no, an true aircraft carrier cannot invade anything and can’t do anything that submarine or destroyer sitting off the coast with a couple hundred missiles can do for a lot less money and with a lot less risk.

They don't need to invade. All they need to do is defeat us in a global theatre

The World Wars have warped our vision of what a war amongst global powers looks like. We tend to think it is a fight to the sovereign death.

But if you look at the wars fought amongst the European powers during the colonial era, you'd see you can defeat your rival without fully absorbing their country into your own.

Spain was the big swinging D*ck, then France, and finally Britain came out on top. None of those countries ceased to exist, they simply ceased to have the power they once held.

If China could figure out how to get their entire Army to the US to invade us, they would win that war. They outnumber us and they surely wouldn't care if they lost 100K troops the way we care.

I guess if you are talking strictly military on military combat they might have a chance due to numbers. However, they would not be able to control the population long term.

How would they combat and control the 393 million civilian weapons that are in this country?

Hush, the livelihoods of hundreds of admirals and defense executives depend on those carriers.

We can argue strategies all day. In the context of this article, we don't need to expand our 176 Billion dollar budget. No one is attacking us. Start by removing physical bases around the world and reducing the budget to elimate waste. Stop providing Europe with free defense. For funs, allow Japan to form an offensive military again to rustle China.

Things a supercarrier can do that a submarine or frigate cannot do as efficiently

Provide Combat air to ground support to troops out of range of artillery and faster than missiles. Longer time on target as well

Provide over the horizon airborne radar coverage

Supply other ships in the fleet

Command all military operations (Admiral and support staff onboard)

Hit targets of opportunity before a missile can even be spun up

Provide ASW operations over a larger area than any other platform

Provide medical treatment to all combat wounded

provide a base for humanitarian efforts or to rebuild island bases
