I get the point of that metric but have always wondered... if we take out the top 5 murder cities of each country, like we are doing with this detail, then where does the US rank.

How does this stupidity keep getting posted?

I ran the numbers for 2022. Without those cities, the US would have a homicide rate of 5.92 per 100k. With those cities the US had a homicide rate of 6.35 per 100k.

For comparison, Mexico had a homicide rate of 25 per 100000 in 2022.

Wikipedia lists the US as 57th in the world with those cities. By my numbers, losing those cities would drop us 6 spots.

Don’t bring actual math into this, it’s more fun making shite up.

This.

They could have said that 10% of the murders in the country happen in these 5 cities and still made their point while being factually correct.

according to Wikipedia (yeah, yeah, I know)

the US was 6th (not 3rd) in total murders in 2022.

if you remove:
California
Texas
Illinois
Pennsylvania
Georgia
North Carolina
New York

the US would then rank.....6th in the world.

if you also remove:
Ohio
Michigan
Virginia
Missouri
Tennessee

then the US would plummet all the way to 8th in the world.

if you want to get the US out of the top 15 in the world, then you also have to remove:

So Carollina
Marylnad
Alabama
Arizona
Louisiana
Indiana
Washington (state)
Colorado
Florida
Wisconsin
Arkansas
Kentucky
Oklahoma
New Jersey
Nevada
New Mexico

the only way you're getting down to 189th is if you remove every single state in the country.

if you keep just Wyoming (fewest in Country) we'd still be ranked 155th

oh, and if we're going by Homicide rate, we're currently at 55th, not 3rd.

Fake news. If you do the math the US only drops about 4 spots.

If they deleted everything with some BS from twitter some posters would take a serious post count hit.

The population of those five cities alone would rank like T30 in the world.

This is total murders. It’s not per capita. When you do it per 100,000 people we aren’t near the top.

Surprise surprise the 3rd most populous country has the 3rd highest total number of murders
