Republican and Democrat solution is to largely ignore and continue to print and borrow more money.

Eventually we'll default and wipe the slate clean. Even if we hyper-inflated the currency in order to pay it off, that would cause its own collapse.

also seeing as we would make the payment in US currency... where else could they spend the money???...

We wouldn't, but even if we did, the dollar is the currency of choice in the poorest part of the world where currencies are least stable. There's no shortage of places to spend dollars outside the US, if you really wanted to, because the dollar remains a superior store of value to just about every other currency in the world.

It will never reach a period of default, because everyone else is just as boned, or worse, than we are.

Just be less irresponsible than other irresponsible countries is one hell of a plan that I’m sure doesn’t have any deleterious effects, particularly on poor people and the middle class.

Here's a REALLY novel idea.....higher taxes in times of great prosperity, lower taxes when we're in an economic downturn. It's truly that simple and fits the old "save for a rainy day" addage.

How about we stop fricking spending? That is never your solution.

How about spending less when we're in a downturn and spending more when we're in prosperity.

You have that backwards.

In a downturn, government spending can pull us out of it.

In prosperity, we don’t need that government support.

I’m this close to just running up all my credit cards for things I want because, why not? It sickens me that we just keep printing money and milking the middle and lower class.

We wouldn't what???... the debt owed would be paid in US currency... we don't deal in nothing else.. you think we paying China in renminbi???... they wouldn't accept in nothing but US Currency... this all hypothetical though... people don't really understand sovereign debt

We would just pay it... no hyperinflation or inflation period would be needed... China would actually suffer
