Things don’t have to be one extreme or the other. The virus is real and nothing to be scoffed at but it’s always not the doom and gloom the media portray it as.
And clearly they don’t think that either considering they reduced their coverage of it drastically the last few weeks during the protests. Only to start it back up now once much of the protest and rioting was done.

We have 1 CoVid positive patient in my hospital... ONE! We are approximately 100 bed facility with 10 ICU beds.

For perspective...you have a population of 4.9 million...NY state has 4 times that at 19+ million...your cases are up 650 area lately...extroplate that to NY type population (really city, but will use state) that would be 2600 cases...they had over 4k cases per day for 6 weeks averaging close to 8-9k... nothing was overwhelmed
My point is when you hear about surges...states like TX and Fla which are bigger than NY..are seeing around 2k a day...much smaller than anything the NYC metro area saw

Meh, there are more "cases" but what does that really mean? There have always been way more infections than positive test confirmed cases. I think our testing has evolved such that more cases are being caught.

Yet people (ok a person I know) are freaking out about 24 more hospitalizations in the past 2 days STATE WIDE.
I honestly have a feeling that 1) there is space so 2) they admit for treatment whereas 6-8 weeks ago they would have perhaps said "stay home and quarantine and come back if you can't breathe"

So testing positive does not mean you are infected with the virus ? IDK just asking
As for the other part , not every case requires hospitalization I would assume is the answer you are looking for
I know 4 people personally who have had it and only 3 required hospitalization

You can do the math for Mississippi bc that is where I live . I am just speaking on average number of new cases per day has gone up since March and the governor was fussing at citizens the other day about taking precautions . No need to get defensive
