People considered moving the capital to St. Louis after the civil war.

Quite a few decades ago during Cold-War nuclear terror, there was a discussion of moving a lot of federal functions to a more central location (geographically now Kansas) and away from lurking Soviet guided-missile subs. Some people argued for the population center (now Missouri).

St Louis was a name that came up often. Denver also came up in conversations. Telecoms are so advanced now that there is little reason to have a central location of government.

It's noteworthy that Brazil built capitol Brasilia from scratch in the middle of nowhere.

It's not even in the top 100 in the nation for highest income zip codes. Arlington County in VA is #3 as a county.
