So how much do you get paid, and what do you do?

I get the idea of trying to construct a straw man of what that job is to try and make your argument better, but repeating it throughout this thread just makes you sound obtuse

It's not a strawman. What kind of training would make you better at your job? The experience of driving the route and knowing whick roads to take and when could increase your speed, but I'm failing to see any kind of training. I pose these questions and not a single one of you has answered the question, you just come back with a pussy little response. If I'm wrong, explain it to me, not "you just don't get it" and you may get somewhere.

They may strike if they want but when you strike you have to consider the reality of how hard it is for somebody to find a replacement for you.

If it's a very skilled position youre somewhat secure in your strike.

If competitors can easily swoop in you might want to reconsider.

Enough.

Consulting at an accounting firm for Fortune 50 companies. I have a Masters degree, working on another one, and a license that about 1% of the population has.

I got all those from working through college and student loans.

You have to maintain and hold a CDL class D, you have to stay healthy enough to pass health checkups for that license, you have to maintain a safe driving record, and on and on.

This world you've constructed where one has to have a rare and defined skill just doesn't exist. If it did, welders wouldn't make so much money just to melt 2 pieces of metal together.

You're coming at this from a person's view that understands nothing about skilled and unskilled labor. People like you are the reasons unions are needed.

What’s the average yearly earnings for a UPS driver?

If I had to guess, I would guess 60k.

Cover drivers start at 12.50/hr? but they also work inside the building

I had a CDL in college. Took me about 5 total hours to get it.

Welding takes skill.

I've done both.

You're probably right. I think people should bring something to the table. Unions exist to keep getting raises for workers that don't want to bring anything else to the table, but feel entitled to more money. That's a bullshite entitled line of thinking. It's lazy as frick. Don't like where you're at, work harder, learn something, not run to a Union boss and bitch about how unfair it is you didn't get a raise even though you haven't done shite different.

.

Sometimes unions are definitely needed and sometimes they protect some that don't necessarily need protection. For example when a big plant Corporation tries to collectively take away a bunch of people's retirements. But sometimes you do have people who do get entitled and try to push for more than they deserve; it's not a broad-brush kind of issue

From a management perspective it's always difficult to manage employees who used to work in a union heavy environment and come under your supervision.

They tend to have more attitude.

The auto unions were horrible. Labor unions I've dealt with in Vegas were also horrible.

A lot of these route sales reps and delivery positions......those companies will work a driver 60-70 hours a week for $30,000 a year if they can, and they may or may not care about safety requirements. I think CDL holders in general could use a good strong union to create some uniformity, and to force companies to maintain safety regs. It could help solve the driver shortage as well.

There are some industries that would absolutely walk over their employees if not for unions.

If this is true, its the workers fault. For example, if working conditions are actually dangerous a person can snap a picture with their cellphone and the company would be crushed instantly. You can also look up competitors salary. It's not hard. We have a wealth of information in our pockets and the ability to share things worldwide in literally seconds.

And if it was because of unsafe working conditions they would get paid for it.

And the company would find another way to fire said employee, and slander if at all possible.

In a perfect capitalistic society, companies have all power over the employee, and unrestrained, can practically exercise indentured servitude. You ever signed a noncompete clause?

Provided those salaries are reported honestly.

Nope, and even if I did, the courts have found they have to meet very specific conditions or they are voidable.

They are. You're having to try to hypothetical your way into your point.

No, but in the meanwhile, a constable can serve an employee with papers and force him to go to court to prove he should be able to earn a living.

So he can only work at that one specific company? Interesting theory.

Ill ask again, what have you studied to base your opinion on the modern union on?
