So he can only work at that one specific company? Interesting theory.

Every noncompete I've ever signed restricted me from working for any company that's involved in any industry that the company I was signing the noncompete was involved in.

The fact that this is allowed is proof of abuse.

Well not really, but i guess you know better than the American legal system which has ruled on the issue several times.

Ill ask again, what have you studied to base your opinion on the modern union on?

I've worked for small companies and large corporations for the last decade, and seen the way they mistreat their employees.

My dad was union for 37 years. He used them many times to file grievances against his employer, and never lost. He was also one of the most skilled and valuable people in his position, and his company sent him across the country many times to train new and old employees.

I signed a noncompete for a company in the hunting and sporting goods industry restricting my movement for 2 years - I was a sales rep.

I signed a noncompete for a transportation company - I was a logistics coordinator.

I'm now under noncompete in the coffee industry - I'm a sales rep again.

It doesn't matter. I love my job.

My company still shouldn't be allowed to force me to sign that.

They didn't force you to do anything. You willingly signed it as a condition of employment.

Sure, but if it's the only thing it's a very weak starting point.

So you're deliberately dishonest.

I'm done with you, carry on.

Sales is a no brainer for a non compete, not sure why they’d ask you to sign one for logistics

In 2017 union membership was only 10.7 and has been in a steady decline for decades, almost 90% of all of all workers managed to hold a job without the help of a union, that tells you all you need to know.

I can get that from manufacturer to another, but I watched my company use this tool to try and stop a former employee from working for a rep group in markets that our company didn't practice in.

And I totally get noncompete clauses for creative types and engineers. Products they design and create on company time are company property.

If you can't understand how a customer list is property of a company I can't help you. A customer list and human relationships aren't at all the same thing.
