Sucks as their salaried delivery personnel instead of the FED Ex subcontracted get the package out of your hands like a hot potato model generally works a lot better for the actual customer.
Its a union busting tactic where the plan is to get rid of enough current employees to force a new vote with a large number of new employees. Highly unlikely to work but that's what it is. The reason its unlikely to work is UPS probably doesn't have a bunch of superfluous employees lying about the warehouse...so they will have to hire new ones and there is a reason UPS employees are pro union and it ain't because they are brainwashed morons like some would like to believe...its because UPS management is constantly trying to frick over their employees and will do so to the point that the new ones will vote to be represented pretty damn fast.
What kind of moron, other than a person who was close to retirement anyway, would swap a job making the kind of money that UPS employees make, with good benefits, for what would amount to about 18 months compensation, when they'd be forced to find employment elsewhere, at a lower wage most likely? Not many I would bet.
According to Google AI $150K is about 75% of the total compensation package of the average Teamster at UPS. Thats 9 months salary and benefits to leave a job that pays somewhere close to 50% more than comparable positions, again according to Google AI. Not many people not planning on retiring in the next couple of years will take that bait.

Good point. Another chapter in corporate America's ongoing struggle to eliminate decent paying jobs.
Also wondering if UPS can hire’part time’ drivers and not have to pay health insurance.

In my area, amazon has figured out how to hire just anyone with a car to deliver their packages. UPS hasn't delivered one of their packages in at least 2 months.

I seriously think that AI replaces about 90% of paid drivers in the next 60 months. Almost a certainty in the next 84 without restrictions placed to prevent the bloodshed. I seriously think in 10-15 years driving for any reason will be a hobby like riding a dirt bike today....commuting will be done in a driverless conveyance. The data is becoming pretty clear that machines are far better at driving than people have ever been....

I'm sure it's about that too.
A lot of rich guys in the boardroom looking at how FED EX charges higher prices for worse service while employing a subcontracted workforce with shite benefits.

Is it too late to join UPS and get this deal?

Oh for fricks sake, this isn't even remotely true.
To find a job that with the qualifications of a UPS driver that pays the benefits and salary that UPS does, It probably is impossible.

Part timers get full benefits.

UPS just cancelled their arrangement with Amazon. Resulting 30%less volume to deliver. That’s probably why they want the driver reduction.
However, they just signed a new contract that I think had guarantees on #s.

The younger ones are cheaper... but not by a whole lot. An ex UPS employee from the past myself.. you can make stupid money as a part time cover driver. But don't plan anything before 8 PM on any weeknight and prepare to hate the holidays.

Probably? Oh no it is impossible. There is no ground transport job in any company that would match the benefits and pay.

$150k seems like a lot, but minus %39 in taxes , then you have to go pay Cobra or self insure .

What exactly are they suing for? The chance to stop members from making $150k for doing nothing?[/embed]
Hourly employees at UPS generally are given a full days work everyday.
There are some cakewalk routes, but the old guys get those based on seniority.

I can't remember how many years ago, maybe twenty, but at the time the Teamsters called a strike because UPS was going to leave the Teamsters retirement plan and start their own for their drivers. The Teamsters retirement plan was largely financed by UPS at the time, and would have been crippled without UPS. I suspect the situation is no different today. That, or something like it, is why they are suing.
UPS drivers are 1/3 of the teamsters roster. The Teamsters are in a situation where their UPS members despise them because they effectively stopped trying to enforce the terms of the UPS contract.
As a byproduct, they are also in a situation where they can’t afford to push back because the Teamsters benefits system collapses under its own weight without UPS funding.

Isn’t the Teamsters boss the guy who lives in the multi mansion and drives a custom Lotus?

Honestly, that is a pretty generous offer….considering they could lay everyone off tomorrow if they wanted to do so.
