Update P4: I have to put an employee on a corrective action plan tomorrow

I’ve never had to do it before, so I’m not sure how it’s going to go.
The employee is a casual friend, so that adds another layer of complexity. I wouldn’t do it, but my boss has taken it out of my hands.
Anyone ever put anyone on a CAP, or been on one yourself?

Who else is wondering if their superior posts here now?

Just be honest with the dude and tell him what's going on and guide him to correct the deficiencies.

Jokes on you. I’m driving the company truck to Alaska now.

Awkward. The entire point is to run them off. “Improvement” is just a charade. Hopefully, your friend sees the writing on the wall and gets another job ASAP.

Are you a Sales Manager?

If he was your friend he would already know whats coming.

He’s just not picking up some processes as quickly as we had hoped.
His effort is fine, and we all telecommute...so he didn’t grab anyone’s titties.

Those plans aren't worth the toilet paper they're written on. Go have some drinks and bust his balls a little and tell him to straighten up.

Yep...if it is performance-based, you just have to explain where the performance is lacking and also set up some periodic meetings for assignments and progress reports. Remember, the goal is to ensure that the employee understands where he/she is falling short and that it is your job to get them back on the right track. Employee is likely a lot more frustrated than you are about this.

Keep it professional and focused on the CAP. You’ll be fine.

I’m sure he just needs to be re-trained on proper French fry hold times

That sucks. Good friend, you’d be fine. Not friends at all, it’d stay that way. But casual friend, that’s the worst. You won’t be casual friends anymore, have a awkward relationship and now bump into him outside work on a regular basis.

No way. You make the useless paper an afterthought. You have to lossen him up. Bust his balls then move in for the soft shot at the end

You should start crying to him about how difficult it is for you, that way he can't cry to make you feel bad about it.

I’ve got a co-worker who I think is about to be put on one. He’s slow as hell getting his work done, which causes work to slide to me.
He’s a buddy fricker.
