Cork, I am certainly happy that you finally got to testify. I am repulsed by a system that has taken this long to get to trial.

My very best to you!

Iona,

I remember the last time they postponed the trial, when I was working in Wisconsin and literally losing my mind over the frustration and anger caused by what was being allowed to take place. I really want to thank you for helping to talk me down and help me to realize the bigger picture. Your knowledge of the law and genuine concern for me meant more than you will ever know. I just want you to know that I really appreciate it, I can't thank you enough.

The same also goes for...

Thanks a lot man. I don't know if you heard, but Leon actually showed up in court this morning with the whole appeal to quash thing. I thought that was very thoughtful on his part and he gained a great deal of my respect by doing so.
There have been some other questions regarding why it was a 2nd degree charge as opposed to 1st, and you were spot on as always. If anyone else has any questions regarding that type of thing, tLSU's answers should be taken as fact. Also, thank God for Laura (the ADA for those of you who don't know); she is truly a Godsend, we couldn't have done this without her. After multiple changes in the prosecution, I can say with absolute confidence that she is the best ADA at 619 S. White St.; she is truly incredible and should be the next DA of Orleans Parish.

Thanks also to everyone else in this thread who has shown their support, along with everyone else on the OT who has stuck by me through the years and helped me along the way when times got tough. Like I said, I won't be answering any questions specifically related to the case unless they have already been addressed in court and are a matter of public record. When, and only when, this is all said and done, I'll do a limited Q&A for everyone.

Cork I read your updates on the whole case. Stay strong and sounds as if you have I respect you for your endurance. I have been held at gunpoint in a robbery and even took money out the safe with the suspects. Not fun. Sorry for the lost of your friend also. I am going to work so gotta go but thanks for the updates and I hope all these suspects rot in jail.

To you

Tonight is the first time that I've heard your story.

You are a very strong man and your courage is amazing. I bet it felt awesome to look that worthless piece of shite in the eyes and tell everyone in the courtroom that he is the coward that tried to take your life.

You've inspired me tonight. I hope those worthless bastards rot in jail for the rest of their useless lives.

I look forward to your future updates.

Funny, my mom asked me about this just a few days ago and I couldn't remember what happened to your case. I figured it had to be over by now... can't believe it's still been going on.

BTW, we played together as kids a bunch of times. You were BFFs with my cousin, who lived with my grandfather next door to you.

Anyway, best of luck to you sir.

I would think so. I meant to catch the 10:00 nightly news in NOLA but I didn't get back to the hotel in time. I was planning to check their websites shortly actually.

There were no media cameras, to my knowledge, in the courtroom yesterday. The recent write-ups may give incentive for some television news outlets to request to film the remainder. I'm sure there will be a good bit in the news once we have a verdict.

If a defendant admits to an attorney that he committed a crime, that attorney is ethically obligated to refer the client to someone else. I don't know how often this happens and how often lawyers obey their ethical obligations, but that's the law as I understand it.

The defendant in this case doesn't have a public defender btw. The defense attorney is doing it pro bono after the head judge a few years ago, who also happens to be the judge presiding over this case, requested volunteers due to a shortage in the public defender's office.

I didn't know that.

But major props to you during this difficult time. Justice will be served.

I'm glad it's finally panning out. Leon is pretty passionate about these types of cases and will show up to make sure everything is being handled the right way. Plus, you'd be surprised what effect him walking in the room has upon jurors or the judges. I have a feeling Laura (his daughter, if you couldnt tell) will either be a judge or DA eventually. If you're comfortable and still around, show up and watch her rebuttal after defense closing argument.

Incorrect.

If a defendant admits to an attorney that he committed a crime, the defense attorney is absolutely obligated to continue the defense.

This is the part that gets me Cork. I mean, how often does a gun jam? And I just don't understand how someone can have such disregard for life. Don't get me wrong, they are the scum of the earth, but still...it's just mind blowing to me.

Glad you were finally able to get up there and hopefully bring justice to your buddy. Stay strong man.

IIRC from previous threads, Cork has claimed it was just a random home invasion. That never made a lot of sense to me, especially since it seemed like the perps were determined to kill everyone in the house. But look at what happened in Metairie a few weeks ago. Some a-hole shotgunned a father and son over an iPad and a purse.
