Specifically looking for a stainless steel with 5 burners.

I'm not looking for a Viking or one of that ilk. Something I can pick up at one of the big box stores (Whirlpool, Kenmore, Bosch, GE, etc..)

UPDATE: we may have to go with induction as it will be the same cost as a new gas cooktop plus a new gas line. Can someone enlighten me on this use of technology and do you like it?

We remodeled last year and put in a Samsung. This is the newer model. They also have some nice 30" units if you need one slightly smaller.

Just put in new appliances in our kitchen remodel last month. Chose Frigidaire Gallery stainless and love it. We have a 30" cooktop and the way the five burner has the control knobs on the front gives you lots more cooking room. Definitely get the 5th burner. Large and right in the middle of the cooktop. Samsung appliances never even crossed my mind. This model has excellent reviews.

Are the other appliances in your kitchen Samsung, or is the idea of having "matching" appliances just not necessary?

We bought all new stainless Samsung when we remodeled. We switched from white to stainless and my wife is very anal about things like that, so yes for us it was necessary. When I say anal I mean it. We had tan faceplates on all our electrical outlets, she decided she wanted to switch to white. No biggie they were coming off to paint anyway right? Wrong, because she also wanted to switch the tan outlets for white ones, so yours truly had to change every outlet in the house because "it wouldn't look right if we did the kitchen but not the bathroom on the other side of the 6K sq foot house."

Happy wife, happy life , so now we have white outlets.

mine also wanted the 'screwless' lutron faceplates so i feel your pain. i still haven't swapped them all out yet but the white looks better than the tan for sure.

Well I'll confess I'm that way about the outlets Not only did I have to change the faceplates, but the outlets themselves to white.

Regarding appliances though, I didn't know if it was important to have everything "match" a certain design line, as long as it was all the same color.

It DOES look better, but I'll never admit that to her lol. I actually went ahead and installed a couple of the outlets with USB ports built into them in each room while I was doing it as well.

Important? No, but if you're going to buy all new anyway.

I went with all Bosch appliances and haven't had any issues. I would go with a 36" cooktop if you want 5 burners.

We had GE, and changed to a Wolf. It has a true simmer low setting. Love it.

where do you live?

there's a guy in birmingham that sells vikings, thermadors, wolfs, etc out the back of a warehouse for pennies on the dollar.

i think they are pulled from remodels or something but you probably shouldn't ask too many questions.

let me see if i can dig up his info..

The Kenmore Pro series is crap. Nothing but problems. You would be better off setting up a Coleman camping stove.

Just installed a Bosch. Ordered online. Installed myself. No problems, no complaints.

ETA: Deciding factor was the existing opening size in my counter. Check your current opening. I had to do a little trim, but nothing major. Make sure it will physically fit without interference.

I was going to buy one of the larger cooktops with the knobs down on the face that more resemble a whole range.... Turns out the knobs would have interfered with some of my other drawer pulls. Glad I checked it all the way before ordering.

Good luck.

I looked up this Bosch and a lot of reviewers were complaining about the sides getting scorched in the corners due to placement of the burners and design of the edges. Has this happened with yours?

I thought about it, but countertop space is at a premium in our kitchen so we're set on the 30" (non-OT Baller).

Blue star is the hottest in the world, and cheaper than other “high end” brands.

Only thing that can even break is the sparker , which is easily replaced by you.
