What if you enlisted as an older guy? Pros? Cons? I do have a degree, but not sure if I'd want to be an officer.

I have a desk job now, would rather be on feet moving around every day, and doing something worth a frick like serving my country.

**update** After everyone's advice officer seems to be the best fit. I've requested my transcript from LSU to get the ball rolling. Thanks for all the input.

Oh and MAGA

Didn't you hear? They don't want transgenders.

Think Chris Kyle enlisted at an older age. Good luck. I'm 40 and tired of the rat race. If they'd let me enlist, I would in a heartbeat. I've experienced a lot of great things in life, but my biggest regret is never serving my country.

I had a guy in my division who enlisted under very similar circumstances to yours. He did all right. Just be aware that you'll probably catch a lot of shite in boot camp, and you're going to have to take orders from people younger than you.

Wasn't older when I joined (22), but knew a few who enlisted when they were around 27-30. The biggest and only con you need to know is that you will be getting shite from people a lot younger than you with a lot less life experience. You would be a 28 year old PFC/LCpl taking orders from some 20-22 yr old Cpl or from an officer fresh out of college.

Former military guy here, it is silly to enlist if you have a degree. Go officer. There are plenty of "active" jobs for officers. Just tell the recruiter

Examples: flight officers, Engineers, and spec ops

Would rather be less administrative and more boots on the ground.

If you have a degree, you can go straight to OCS and not a regular boot camp?

And TBH, you'll probably get tired of hanging out with 19 year olds. You'll probably want to make friends and have interests off base.

If you go enlisted with a degree, they'll start you off as an E-4, so you'll be an NCO in no time as long as you make some effort. There are plenty of people older in age in, a lot more than you think. As long as you aren't badly out of shape or have medical issues that hinder your abilities, then I say go for it!

Also I think the minimum contract is still 2 years, so go the minimum and see if you enjoy it and if not, then get out and do something else. 3 years minimum and you can earn the GI Bill, etc.

Talk to them bro but TBH it seems like your're deep in the throes of a, "I'm almost 30 and feel like I'm missing something" crisis
