"I looked at the case and met with the officers and determined that we would not be able to meet the burden of proof in the criminal case and in the civil case," Loge said in an interview. He also cited the press coverage of the story and said that his office has heard from "a lot of citizens" who were upset about the details of the case.
quote:
"In this case, the question was did they have probable cause to act? And in my opinion they did," he said. But he added, "Once you file cases and facts come to light, things change. That's the way our justice system is designed, and you have to let the wheel of justice turn and act — and that's what we did."

Let me translate for you:

Loge and his goons should be fired, tried, convicted, and put in prison immediately.

Eh Wah was pulled over for a broken tail light in February by Muskogee County sheriff's deputies, who said a drug-sniffing dog alerted on the car. When the deputies searched the car, they found all $53,000 that the band had raised. They didn't like Eh Wah's explanation for why he had it, citing inconsistencies in his responses to police questions. So they seized the cash and eventually charged him with a drug felony, even though they found no drugs or paraphernalia in the car or in his possession.
Well, if that just isn't one of the most f'ed up things I'll read this week.

Just one more reason to never go to Oklahoma. Also, I'm relieved to hear no dogs were shot in this story.

What can be done to change this? If this didn't hit the news, we all know that money would have never been returned.

Well, if the dog would not have faked smelling drugs on command, he would not have fared so well. Prob a my would have been "shot by the perp" with a planted gun being found in perps car

Thank god for the pub pressure

I have always been suspicious of this. I would be willing to bet that they train those dogs to react on command to give them "probable cause".

Really going out on a limb there

I have a Wiemeraner(?) I am NOT a pro trainer. I can make him bark on a verbal or non verbal command. I say "speak" and he barks.
These guys work for years. Point with a fist instead of open hand...something subtle, and NO doubt they can make the dog alert

Duh. The fact that courts allow police to use an animal that licks its own arse and shits in the yard to decide if there is probable cause is completely ridiculous.
Drug dogs have no official oversight. The handlers have no central organization, no standards, no nothing. You can start your own drug dog business and call it Geaux Matt's dope dog emporium if you wanted. It's crazy.

What a load of bullshite. As has been said, he's pompously admitting the only reason they're returning the money is because their treachery has been exposed to the commmon rabble.

NWA was way before their time with their classic police song.
