If a civil suit is persued and allowed to go forward and her family ultimately wins, that is holding the parents accountable for the actions of their grown child. That is not a good precedent to set.
They would be sued for whatever role they had. They can’t be sued for wrongful death for sure. That’s Brian fault alone. But they could possibly be sued for intentional infliction of emotional distress for hiding information from the Petito family when she was missing.

And I work on the defense side.
I still think they get past the pleading stage.

Are you suggesting someone planted skeletal remains in that particular location?
Would that shock you?
I’m only suggesting what the FBI itself has explicitly, time and time again, done to the American electorate for decades...
‘planted Psyops”...
The list of government sanctioned Psyops is endless, they will even perform a Psyop within a Psyop.

I work in-house for a publicly traded Fortune 500 company. After partnership at an Amlaw firm as a litigator. Where do you work? Your mom’s basement?

A lawsuit against the estate of BL, if there is anything (unlikely) or even the Utah police has more legs, though still not a great cases.

If’ they knew he had killed Petito - then it can be aiding and abetting a criminal
And how, exactly, can it be proven that they knew? The only possible witness to what they did or didn't know is dead.

However, I think they get smoked on the civil case
Again...who is suing them, and for what? To start with, who suffered any damages because of anything the parents did?

I know better than anyone that a good plaintiffs attorney can make up enough bullshite to get past the pleading stage. All of the facts alleged in the pleading have to be accepted as true on a motion to dismiss. They can say whatever they want with the only leash being Rule 11.
I’ve seen hundreds of claims way more bullshite than this survive.
If purposely hiding information from a missing girl’s family isn’t intentional infliction of emotional distress, what is?

Based on what?
The fact that it will take them 2 second to find a lawyer willing to take the case, and the fact that the public, aka jury, is generally retarded as evidenced by this thread. I don’t agree with it, but it’s a likely outcome.
It's not at all a likely outcome. In fact, it's more likely an impossibility. Sure, the public may be retarded, but judges aren't. Any judge will throw it out immediately. And even the sleaziest lawyer wants to get paid. No lawyer would ever take the case, because he knows a judge would never hear it.
Again...what exactly would they be sued for?

Yeah...IIED wont fly here. Would be dismissed.

No, you're an anonymous poster on a message board. And anonymous posters on message boards who feel the need to recite their resume are usually full of shite.
