Which makes the situation even stranger. Did the dad just order something for GP and BL without asking what they wanted? If not why didn't she tell him she only needed food for herself as BL was in Florida for a few days? Nothing in this story makes any sense.

If he says he didn't do anything. I think getting a lawyer is smart. But I would still want to cooperate with LE. I would want for the lil girl to be found, and would expect for him to want the same thing.

I've thought this from the beginning. The police could be in contact with his lawyer and him without telling anyone, even her parents.
As far as him not talking to the parents, we have no real idea what kind of relationship he has with them, nor how they feel about him. If they were having relationship problems, and if she was having some sort of mental issues, there is no telling what she could have told them. If he believes her parents are out to get him, and he has a lawyer advising him, he has every reason not to speak with them directly. There is no winning for him with her parents and family if that is the situation.

I'll be honest, I had no idea this story was going to blow up like this.
I posted in the first few pages, basically joking cuz I assumed she would be found pretty soon or the thread would just disappear and be forgotten after 4 pages.
At this point I'm heavily invested now.

I agree with all that and see how you would want to protect, but once again where that seems odd is that they waited for the girls family to report her missing.
They basically have withdrawn from ANY interaction with the Petito family. They are acting as if they don’t even know them. The only one that has spoken to media is Laundries sister and she said she hasn’t spoken to him since the disappearance. Only Laundrie, his attorney, and his parents know where Petito is.

And rightly so. The police will be looking for someone to arrest here. Let them do their job. I wouldn't give them any info to hold against me.

Although he may be guilty, the parents are likely not going to accept any alternatives which reflect poorly on her.

People that don’t drink still go to bars sometimes, especially if it’s a small town with not many other options for night time entertainment
