It's unbelievable to have a supercell this strong this close to a radar site. The imagery is incredible on reflectivity. They might put this reflectivity in textbooks.

The cross sectional radar images they’ll post tomorrow will be insane.

Crazy how Alabama is getting these Midwest strength tornadoes the past few years.

We’ve always had them, they are just usually hard to see so you don’t get all of the photos and videos of them which means less national media attention over all.

I've driven on that highway between Maplesville and Wilton to Montevallo a hundred times growing up as well. Montevallo is an even bigger city than Centreville/Brent and is home of University of Montevallo who has a really strong nationally ranked Division II basketball program.

Looks like it's barely going to miss Wilton to the south. There is a large pulpwood mill at the intersection just south of downtown Wilton. I'm mostly concerned about it hitting Calera which has been one of the fastest growing cities in Alabama for the last 30 years. That far southern part of Shelby County is pretty heavily populated.

Dixie Alley gets more impactful tornadoes than Tornado Alley for a number of reasons. Population, topography, mobile homes, etc. But no it's nothing new. People just started paying attention.

Hopefully the cell to the south can help choke it off, perhaps around I35.

Hopefully it weakens or passes between Montevallo and Calera without hitting either one.
