from google:
Manslaughter is an unlawful killing that doesn’t involve malice aforethought—intent to seriously harm or kill, or extreme, reckless disregard for life. The absence of malice aforethought means that manslaughter involves less moral blame than either first or second degree murder. (But plenty argue that some instances of felony murder, a form of first degree murder, involve less blameworthiness than some instances of manslaughter.) Thus, while manslaughter is a serious crime, the punishment for it is generally less than that for murder.

Good guys don't drunkenly kill people.
He was a good guy up until the point he killed someone.
I'd be curious to know if there were any witnesses. Was the kid with some of his friends?

Hopefully he was attacked and it was self-defense, but it doesn't look good that he was arrested initially if that were the case.
Then it becomes manslaughter for continuing to beat the guy after the threat was mitigated.

That's ridiculous.
I don't know the guy, but good guys have gotten in drunken fights since the discovery of alcohol. We don't even know he started it.
Lets wait for some facts.

And 99.9% of the fights don't end in death.
The ones that do? Someone went to prison for it if i had to guess. At least in places with competent law and order.

Shouldn't this be manslaughter and not murder?
From what is provided:
Elevated parking garage so there is video;
Eye witness(es) say he punched and kicked ol boy several times;
My guess is the 60 year old was down and he continued the beating clearly after there was no danger to him.
But as fricked up as the NO DAs is who knows?

Manslaughter is if he hits the guy twice, guy falls and hits his head and dies. Once he commenced to kicking and beating the downed old man, it becomes second degree murder.

This could've been like any other of the 99.99% of fights except one punch hit the exact wrong way on the skull by chance and the guy died.
Good guys get in drunk fights all the time. Any of them could have bad luck and kill a person.

Why because I think even being accused of murder is bad?
Good people very very very very very rarely get accused of murder. Just saying.
If that hurts your feelings, maybe you need to reevaluate what you think a good person does.

Question for the lawyers:
Shouldn't this be manslaughter and not murder?
No way there was premeditiation right?
Depends on the facts but there is no premeditation standard in Louisiana. It is specific intent.
This charge hasn't been levied by the DA so it might change but they can charge Second Degree and give the option to the jury of finding lesser degrees
