Why is this? I think any sane human being, regardless of political affiliation, can admit that if you ship people off to foreign lands to fight for your country and possibly die, you should at least be taken well care of if you don't die. Come on, why is this a thing? I can only guess that its government incompetence.

Paperwork, they are understaffed and have to go through tons of paperwork. I think its designed this way on purpose. 2018 life should be different but its not

Hardcore drugs have been banned for 75 years. Have we seen an end to overdoses or drug related violence?

We can debate hypotheticals til we are blue in the face.

The fact remains there are literally millions of firearms in the US. You could ban automobiles easier than you could ban guns

The one thing most people forget too is one of the bigger reasons the US has never had an attempt at an invasion in the modern era is because of the number of armed citizens. You aren't just fighting the military if some other country tried, you are fighting every dick and jane on every corner. I will admit too; the overall size of the US helps too.

Again, you never read my original post. I do not think it will happen, but to counter yours. Heroin became an epidemic in NYC in the 70's so they mandated possession of any amount a life sentence. Guess what, Heroin all but disappeared. But of course it was unfair and they redacted that mandatory sentence so we will never know. If you mandated a life sentence for possession of a firearm and held firm on that, gun violence would absolutely dissolve. It will never happen and none of those issues you listed above have improved bc the laws have no teeth.

So making a criminal out of 100M law abiding citizens....smart, let me know how that turns out for you.

However, there have been 307 mass shootings in 2018.

This number has been debunked many, many times already.

ETA: The "methodology" for counting mass shootings is from a non-government gun control advocacy group. The media just ran with it because it fits their narrative.

It's pretty clear. 4 or more victims classifies as mass.

And does that really matter to you?

Ok I'll start my own group and define mass shootings as whatever I want to push my agenda.

I mean that's just as valid.

Ummmm, no. The oceans, the land area, and the US Navy are the reasons no one has invaded the United States.

It has nothing to do with an armed citizenry. There hasn’t been a military in the world capable of a full scale mainland invasion of the US since the early 1800’s.

No one forgets this because it’s absolutely incorrect.

4 or more have to die not including the shooter to be classified as a mass shooting so no, 308 have not happened in the US this year. That number is a complete fabrication.

ETA: The 4 or more number is according to Congressional Research Services. Congress considers 3 or more.

Since 1990, there have been 87 mass shootings and 11 of those were in 2017.

The same leftist loons that hate the police want only the police to have guns.

typical stupidity from them

The government cannot protect its citizens and even sets up "sanctuaries" for criminals, frick taking away people's means of defending themselves.

Not only that the same leftists who want to take guns away want wide open borders so guns can continue to freely flow over the border to the criminals that don't give a shite about whatever gun ban the leftists cook up.

Yes. Your rights end where mine begin.

My concealed carry weapon takes care of the first part of your statement. The second part of your statement isn't my problem.

This. When it comes down to it, my right to protect who I care about matters so much more to me than you or your friends and family. Get a gun and learn to use it.

I lean left on nearly every social issue, but I stand firm on gun rights. I have the right to own a firearm to protect my family, period. The problem in this country is lack of mental health care and lack of knowledge regarding various mental health illnesses within the medical community. Of course we need to regulate things to a higher degree to ensure folks with issues can’t obtain a gun, but the answer to crazy people killing people isn’t to take away everyone’s protection from those crazy people. That makes no sense.

Like the other morons (not you cas4t) that mentioned making criminals out of the 100M+ law abiding citizens that have guns, do you WANT to see another civil war?

If the government tried to make harsh sentences for law abiding gun owners, I guarantee that would lead to a civil war.

It would be interesting to see if police and the military would do as they are commanded or if (as most are gun owners themselves) they stand with the gun owners.

(While I know this would never happen) I am saying take military/police out of the picture.... just liberals vs. Non liberals.....
