BODY RECOVERED FROM GULF FOLLOWING CRASH OF SMALL PLANE OFF DESTIN COAST The Coast Guard has recovered a man’s body following the crash of a small aircraft in the Gulf of Mexico offshore of Destin around 8:30 p.m. The Coast Guard, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission launched boats to begin a search after multiple 9-1-1 calls in reference to witnesses seeing an aircraft hit the water. Investigators are working to confirm the identity of the man, believed to be the pilot of the aircraft. It's a crazy scene. I couldn't figure out what had happened as I just got back to my condo around 9pm. I went out on the balcony and all of this going on. Prayers for all involved.

**Someone staying next to me said it may have been a chopper.

With the military bases in that area, the response should be adequate. Prayer for all involved.

2 choppers with spotlights searching about 1/2 off the coast. Another police boat totaling 7 circling an area also. Sad to say the least

There is a small General Aviation airport right on the strip in Destin. Likely, the pilot was banking to for a VFR approach but lost speed or altitude.

Sad.

Any chance you boys getting any clues who this might be? I know a bunch of pilots headed out there and back from this area. Not good.

If the plane was departing Destin Executive at about 8:25 CDT, it may have been heading to Abbeville according to Flightaware.
