It all started when he lost that W-2 from Barone Sanitation.

Paying a lobbyist 100k a year isn't much of a black eye for the university, really. Assuming that's what the payments were for.

No, there isn't. Problem is that Flowers isn't a registered lobbyist. There are only a few plausible explanations for paying him. He was an unofficial lobbyist (which would mean he was committing a felony), he was being paid to write stories without acknowledging the relationship (unethical), or it was a do-nothing appointment by someone in power to simply funnel money to a buddy (again, possibly illegal and certainly unethical).

Plain and simple, it's a deserved bad look for the university.

So they were paying some guy $700k a year and they paid a reporter $96k a year to write good things about him.

Are you sure this isn't Louisiana?

Is it me, or has this publication over the last several years picked up some local journalists that aren't afraid to pull back a curtain?

The only real journalism being done anymore is the Independents. Main stream media is useless.

corruption in government?

This guy gets it. Government will consume all money available to it, and then some.

Alabama is by far the most corrupt state in the country. I used to think it was Louisiana till I lived here.

I think within 18 months the governor was forced to resign, the Chief Justice was kicked off the bench and the speaker of the house got convicted. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The Secretary of State Steve Marshall just admitted, after having heard the evidence, of screwing around. Mac McArthur and Jackie Graham are in cahoots to steal from state employees. You got sheriffs using food money for beach houses and gambling debts.

And the thing is, all of that malfeasance is well-known and they all just keep their mouths shut about it until somebody gets out of line or someone wants revenge.

Steve Marshall isn't the secretary of state and if he's been screwing around good for him. He's a widower. Fail.

Mac McArthur

Is head of the state employees union that has no actual power and he can't take one penny from employees unless they choose to join.

Jackie Graham

Is the state personnel director who has no authority to do anything other than implement the decisions of the state personnel board. She most certainly doesn't have ANY ability to take money from state employees.

If you're going to throw names around, at least try to do so in a way that doesn't make you show just how ill informed you actually are.

Sorry, I got Marshall and Merrill mixed up. All the crooks run together after a while.

Google “Mac MacArthur” and “nationwide”. he got off scot free in that scam. Basically, all ASEA does now is push Aflac, Liberty Mutual, etc

As for Graham, it’s her job to ensure the Rules of the State Personnel Board are followed. She has failed miserably, and it’s kept employees from getting money they earned per the law.
