Better football team will only help enrollment. Bama is a clear indictment of that. The major con however is barely any of these kids stay in state.
That is not the university's concern, or at least not a major one.
Not Bama's problem that their graduates are moving to Atlanta instead of Birmingham. The state needs to figure out how to make itself more competitive. The university needs to focus on delivering a quality education and attracting research initiatives and funding.

I disagree - it should be of the university concern because it will eventually effect enrollment to put pressure on state officials. It all effects the state economy. Plus kids will start going to other universities where it is easier to get jobs near the desired cities they want to live in.
Also while a large chunk of bama students go to Atlanta - you’re missing the point that Alabama is also blowing up and more grads are staying there too

Lowering tuition and learning how to stay afloat without robbing your students is important for the future.

This isn't a universal fact - LSU is bucking this trend, possibly because tuition is relatively affordable and the university is benefiting from proximity to rapidly growing cities like Dallas and Houston. The 2019 football team being one of the best in history certainly helped too.
Flagship public universities are seeing increase in enrollment, likely because the value of their degrees relative to the cost of tuition are more favorable than smaller, private alternatives.
LSU has done a good job of not going overly woke. It does a good job protecting free speech. It's continuing education program is really good too. I recently got my cloud computing certs from LSU and got a discount for being an alum.

Having worked in higher ed, at least in my institution, they started admitting more students but the academic quality of the students they admitted plummeted. To the point where, at the moment, there is an academic crisis in my school (housing some of the tougher majors on campus) almost certainly due to under-qualified students getting admitted to majors where they just are going to greatly struggle to be successful.
This right here. Think about places like ULL, Southeastern, ULM, and the like in Louisiana. These schools might be seeing drops in enrollment because LSU can offer more in financial aid or spots for sought-after programs because they need to put heads in beds.
There is a massive trickle-down effect to a reduced number of students enrolling in higher education. The really big schools should be ok because they have more to offer, be it money or access, than smaller regional schools.

This undoubtedly means that fewer Louisiana kids chose to go to state universities outside this state.
Good.
Good.
