I'm not so sure he did that, I haven't paid a ton of attention, but it seems he sort of just sat in the seat he was told to sit in initially without making a scene until United has him forcibly removed. United may not have had that right at all if the flight was not oversold, which seems to be a very likely scenario (this is clearly just going to be a circular discussion though, no need to continue it.)

When they go talk to him to ask him to leave, which they tried at first, and he starts yelling and whimpering, he is, at that point, an unruly passenger.
But this apparently didn't happen. He started yelling after they brought the police in to forcibly remove him.

Furthermore, I don't know why everyone is blaming the Doctor for not moving. He was singled out, period. For no reason at all. There should never be a reason to single out someone for removal, it should be a bidding process to the entire 60+ people that way whoever has the most time and will take the least amount of money to persuade will do so.

I THOUGHT I had HEARD that the doctor at first agreed and got up or got off the plane, then ran back into the plane running pass the gate attendant. I thought that was the piece of video of him running around saying "I have to go"? At that point he looked crazy, and while a stretch, could be seen as a threat. At that point he finds a seat and digs in his heels.

That doctors past will show there are no heroes in this story, only assholes.

Maybe I just haven't read about it, but I haven't seen anything that makes me think he was being anything but peaceful.

This is the best angle I could find. Can't hear what they're saying, but pretty clear he's being asked to get up by security then resisting when security trying to grab him

It depends on if the flight was "oversold" or "fully booked" actually. So we don't really know

Find another way to get their crew to work on time.

Legalities aside bumping paying passengers because they suck at logistics is dumb. They deserve everything coming their way.

United isnt claiming it was oversold, in fact they're claiming it wasn't oversold.

United chose the 4 passengers that were being bumped based on who had the lowest priority boarding, based on lowest class tickets and latest check-in times. He was chosen because he had one of the cheap tickets and was among the last ones to check-in for the flight.

Well then that link you posted to the Overbooked removal thing would technically not apply correct (just asking and thanks for linking to the immediate correct section btw).

On what basis were police there? What crime was committed?

Offer up larger and larger vouchers until someone agreed. The cost to them of losing a flight crew and having another flight canceled should easily be worth $2,000 in vouchers.

This was my impression too. I don't think this incident started where the video begins. Dude seemed like a maniac. Can't let that person fly.

My thought too. Still looking for anywhere in the contract that justified this...

This guy doesn't own the plane, so that's not a great comparison.

Make it a leased apartment, can the owner kick you out when he wants for no reason if that's not stated in the contract?

Fine, I don't have time to research, but if it is a contract, then every contract has obligations and then remedies. If that contract was in breach, he has legal remedies, that don't include crying and wailing on the plane and making them drag him off.

If he agrees to get off the plane, wouldn't he lose any remedies?

The overbooking policy clearly outlines a process for choosing someone to remove if no one volunteers

That contract gives them the right the bump you from the flight in the event its overbooked and outlines the compensation that they're required to give you if you're involuntarily bumped
The flight was not overbooked.
