re: Unfriendliest Cities in America

Last time I was in New York I thought people were friendly.
They don't have as much Southern common courtesy like holding doors open and stuff, but they weren't rude when engaged in conversation or pleasantries.
I've met some of the nicest people ever up in New Hampshire/Vermont area too, so lumping all of the Northeast together isn't fair.

Of course people in Vermont are going to be nice as hell... Good beer, Ben & Jerrys, everyone getting high, no crime, etc....
It's pretty utopian besides cold and landlocked.

For sure
But it's odd when people say the whole Northeast is rude. NYC is not bad and the rest of that state is pretty great.
Philly? Sure.
Boston? Has it's moments of rudeness, but I've found it's almost a playful rudeness and if you dish it back they like you.

Seattle.
Asking someone to grab a beer is like some international crisis in planning times, dates, and locations.
Chicago in the winter is warmer than Seattle.

I've been to Seattle once for a week and didn't think people were that rude.
And I was walking around in LSU gear when we were about to play UW.
Maybe I just got lucky.

seems like you may be the problem here.

I love it
Most of the people we meet/hang out with in Boston are nice, so the rare times when I see someone telling off a customer or an Uber driver laying into someone blocking the street is the highlight of my trip
"what's this bitch getting mad at me fah, if she's mad it should be at haself because she sucks at doin ha jahb"

Anywhere populated by Yanks. Say what you will about the south but southern hospitality is alive and well.
Then why is the crime rate higher in Louisiana than almost everywhere including NY?
NYC is much safer than New Orleans.

Philadelphia
I nicknamed it “the city that hates you back.”

They are often very blunt. People in the south tend to take offense to that because we have little quips and sayings that we use in reply when calling people stupid to their face.

In my opinion, the entire state of Pennsylvania contains the rudest, most unfriendly people. After that, Washington D.C. is pretty unfriendly. I've found that it is very who you know, where did you go to school cliquey there (e.g., "Hello Jack, I went to Woodberry Forest Prep, University of Chicago Undergrad, and William & Mary law after." "Hi Tom, impressive. I spent my youth at Phillips Exeter, went to Cambridge, and interned with President Obama before attending Yale Law. Oh, and by the way, I finished top five in my class."
LOL this is right on with DC. Even the non-elites are frigging rude, especially in the Metro. They'll run over your damn kids and not a sorry or excuse me to be found.

You think? I hear this about a lot of classic, Southern cities (Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Franklin, Chattanooga) ... I don't think it comes off as unfriendly. People are just skeptical or curious at first. These are smaller, older "established" towns where everyone knows everyone who grew up there.

They’re used to drunk arse holes so they’re trained to treat everyone like one. It’s not fun for me.
They don't hate everybody...they just hate you.
