Law school is largely what you make of it. If you put in the time and work, you should do fine.

You know what they call people that graduate from Loyola? Lawyers. Harvard? Lawyers. Southern? Lawyers. LSU? Lawyers. Assuming you pass the Bar of course.

True, but there are levels to this shite

I am game for either at my age. A female student with Daddy issues would work or a seasoned professor in her 30’s -50’s who has aged like a fine wine and knows what she wants. Either way, I am willing to sacrifice looks for a certain morally casual attitude.

I’m 45 and about to complete my masters after getting my undergrad at age 44. I can attest to your experience. The classes are a joke and I’m continually shocked at the grammar and the fact some of these people finished high school. It’s been a little better in grad school, but not much. I skip the zoom calls because they are pointless and the time is taken up with people asking things they should have been taught in the 8th grade

You will easily out-work them because most of them have ZERO work ethic. That means it’s all about your effort.

It’s amazing how many 20-29 year olds some how think they have it figured out and should somehow be in management positions.

I know now in my 40s, you don’t know shite about life till you are probably around 35.

I definitely, in that 20-29 range, had well-meaning family members pushing me to apply to be a supervisor and that if I didn't want to be, it must mean I don't want more money, etc.

Of course I wanted more money, but I saw the heavier, painful responsibilities on my supervisor's shoulders, the amount of bs'ing she had to do with all sorts of people I didn't want to be interacting with, and the fact that I didn't even like my current job that much, and I said it wasn't worth it.

When you're in that 20-29 range, the vast majority of people aren't ready to lead a team of others either. I now when my family members were having that conversation with me, that I had so much of my own stuff to figure out, I couldn't even comprehend trying to lead a team of others who would depend on me for guidance.

I began law school at 21.

I"m immature at 53. You can image what I was like coming to the city from rural north Louisiana back then.

Based on my experience working for an AmLaw 100 firm, that really doesn't mean much.

I saw Laborde Earles is hiring for several positions in Lafayette.

I almost applied for the mail room.

I'll need flexible hours to take a job accompanying my freelance stuff.

The experiences in life that you have gone through is gonna help you tremendously in law school. Wait till you have to be the prosecutor or defense and you argue against them. Just understanding life and knowing how things actually work will make you scary good

I've spent enough time coaching and judging trial advocacy teams/competitions to know that's a double edged sword. Some of the best student advocates I've ever seen were non-traditional students, but I've also seen quite a few who thought their "savvyness" was more important than building their technical skillset, and I would watch them get frustrated and then embarrassed when things just never seemed to go the way they thought it would in their heads.

Reminds me of the old farts we had in law school. They thought they knew everything and I don't think one of them finished in the top third

I finished in the bottom 10th, but I passed the bar the first time.

When I showed up to get sworn in, all the moot court and law review types wondered what the hell I was doing there.

Most of my clique conditioned it.

How did you get into law school so easily? Did you ace the LSAT?

Bruh, it is Loyola. It isn't like it is a T14, it is a T140.

Non-traditional students tend to do well in law school because they are used to working every day. The majority of 1Ls have never failed at anything academic in their lives and many are excellent crammers. It takes a LOT of intellectual horsepower to cram in law school but if you keep up with it everyday and are a decent writer it really isn't that difficult to do reasonably well. A lot of 1Ls are in for a surprise with the first exam and they get hit with the law school curve. I will say law schools in general have eased up on grades. The school that I went to had a 2.5 median for 1Ls and now it is 3.0. I have seen GPAs on job apps move closer to 4.0 over the 17 years I have been in the hiring loop. Apparently those ubiquitous Cs in classes were breaking too many students that never even got a B in their life.
