re: Uncle is leaving America for Belize ????

My buddy bought some land there about 3 years ago for under 100k. He’s started clearing the land and will eventually move a home built by Belize’s version of the Amish which is also under 100k.

Apparently is a newer phase near Secret Beach that doesn’t have the ocean seaweed. Mostly Americans, Canadians, & Europeans. He showed me some videos and I’m starting to think about something like that.

I feel like we’ll find out soon if things will move in right direction in our country or if the forces are too powerful to truly defeat.

What's wrong with living where he feels comfortable?


I almost moved to Tulum in 2018 before I met my wife. You can get a lot of house there for cheap and I love the area. My friend has a house there but currently is living in Portugal and put his Tulum house on AirBNB.

I've been there a couple of times and know people who go fairly regularly.

I'm not saying I would want to live there, but I've always liked it. And I know people who absolutely LOVE it (and potentially want to move there one day).

One of the most stable economies in the region (not saying much but not insignificant) and about middle of the pack for stability in the western Hemisphere which is pretty significant. Has pretty good basic healthcare which is affordable, relatively low crime rates and cost of living which is affordable for US and British expats who are retired. It is also very highly regarded as a place for expats to do business. It is not the expat heaven it once was (mainly based on cost of living) but it still ranks pretty high. My wife and I have given it considerable thought. In retirement. We know several couples who live at least part time in Belize and they love it.
