Was given round of steroids after first surgery and pain wasn't as bad until steroids wore off, he had me do another MRI didn't see anything else, then when I went back for follow up is when he suggest a second micro discectomy to explore for further damage. Said that it was severely inflamed but no other damage. Put me on steroids again after second surgery. Pain became worse towards the end of steroid pack and now is horrible about 5 days after finishing steroids.

Dude it's only been a few weeks. The trauma/swelling will take awhile. Just take your pain meds and advil and lay low.
A week after my surgery I felt the sciatica come back hard and almost cried fearing surgery failed. But after two months I was pain free.

Post visit analysis.
Changing nerve medications and giving another round of steroids. Follow up in 3 weeks, if not better then will do an MRI and possibly an injection in the spine. If still no positive results then will look at fusion.

Yikes. That sucks. After my surgery, once the pain meds wore off I could immediately tell a difference. There was pain from surgery, but that pain that was always there was gone.

So you had 2 back surgeries in 6 weeks and are in unbelievable pain.
Your solution is to come to an anonymous sports related message board rather than call your doctor or go the the ER.
A microcosm of the USA in 2024. Gotta get those sympathy likes before getting real help.
Make sure you ask Facebook for their advice too.

Hey idiot, I had already talked to my doctor multiple times. I came to a message board to see if anyone else had a similar experience. I'm not looking for sympathy I'm looking for reassurance that I'm not having one off symptoms. Thanks for taking the time to spend your precious energy typing out a smart arse response, it's just the smile I was looking for. You do you cupcake.

Sorry to hear about this situation. I've had a herniated L5-s1 for 20 years now and have constant sciatica down right leg, muscle atrophy in right calf and I just live with it. I'm scared to death of having back surgery because of stories like yours where people end up worse off than before.

There is a MD in Tyler Texas, Kevin Pauza, who invented Discseel. I have heard nothing but great things about his procedure. Google for info if you desire.

The surgery on L5 and S1 was my first on those two discs my second all together as my first was only on L4. L5 and S1 were herniated and not ruptured when I had my first surgery on L4 and the doc told me he doesn't perform surgery on herniated discs, that was 15-20!years ago. Things might have changed. I have had absolutely no problems since then, surgery was a complete success, thank God.

I have been through a micro and radical discectomy. Both worked very well and relief was immediate subsequent to surgery. Get a second opinion and research before you go that route. Can’t do anything put provide you with piece of mind. Doc either blew the operation or his advice is solid. Information is what you need.

Anyone had a laminectomy and fusion?
The numbness never went away in my left leg and foot.
It's been 14 months since the surgery.

If you haven’t had similar issues then butt out. Back and leg pain aren’t a laughing matter. Perhaps you’ll understand some day.
Just a bulging disc pressing against the sciatic nerve will light you up from the waist down. Can’t sleep in the bed or get out of it without yelling. Sleep in a chair as best you can because that’s the least of all the worst pain to just get up to pee in the night. And you better have that walker ready to help you get there or you ain’t making it.
That was my life before I had a hip replacement and disc surgery. A wheelchair was the next option, or dope oneself out of our minds to try to deal with it forming an addiction to fight along with it. It’s misery no one can indentify with unless we’ve been there.
My hip replacement went great, but it took a week or so to get going good, then the disc pressing on the nerve happened. I believe the disc pressing on the sciatic nerve was worse. I said at one time that ain’t nobody going to cut on me but my life was over if I hadn’t done it
My back surgery went ok but the pain came back, so I hobbled back up there to try to figure it out. They took X-rays and such and didn’t see anything. Gave me some kind of steroid pack and that was great til the weaning off stage, but it did get better and now I’m pretty much pain free.
These surgeries were done in Little Rock and the surgeons I used are outstanding . Sometimes it takes things longer to heal than expected.

I had a laminectomy but no fusion. Sounds like nerve damage more than anything still being wrong with your spine.

I had it in 2009 and words can’t describe that pain. Pain meds, muscle relaxers, and I think some kind of steroid helped to where I could actually lay down and sleep. After a couple days I started doing different stretches I found online which definitely helped. I still have numbness in my left thigh sometimes but thankfully not that God awful pain. Your story is why I’ll avoid back surgery as long as possible.

I have problems with L3,L4 and L5. Also 3 disc in the neck are bad.
One back rupture, two back herniated. One neck fusion and two herniated neck.
My neurologist blocked my sciatic nerve three weeks ago. Working well.
My Ortho blocked a pinched nerve in my neck. last week. I’m going to have to get cut for that soon.
Today they did an MRI for my facet joints in my back. The lady neurologist is going to work on those next week.
Tomorrow I’m having a CT scan on my gall bladder etc.
My high school friend is taking my gall bladder out Friday . Three day recovery.
They have been wanting to slice and dice my lower back for 38 years.
I’m 66. 5’ 10 1/2. 190 lbs. Had gotten up to 240 ten years ago.
Keeping the weight off helps my spine greatly.
Also I have Parsonage-Turner Syndrome that gives me fits sometimes and my left arm is wasting away.
I consider myself blessed because I’m still pretty spry. I fish often. I can still set and haul hoop nets in the winter. I’m rigging up a boat with skimmers now to catch shrimp. For me and my friends.
Life is good.
Hope all of y’all feel better. Remember the times when we weren’t all broke up.
