UK's mitigation strategy (referred to by many of us as the 'herd immunity strategy') has been scrapped.

Someone finally did the maths & realised it would lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths

Bummer, I wanted to see a comparison. Could have been useful data points.

I was kind of hoping to see how that played out.

I was really hoping they'd do it and be massively successful, so that we wouldnt have to endure this again in 10 years when the next viral outbreak is

Well damn. Someone else needs to try it. Maybe Mexico.

So what exactly was their strategy? Just not do anything and let it kill off the old and weak?

Sweet fricking Christ. I don't know what's more insane. The fact that someone comes up with these ridiculous numbers or the fact that people believe them.

quarantine the old/at risk

let the people who have low threat levels to cycle through

i guess they couldn't adequately quarantine their at risk populations

Wouldn't surprise if that's the case. Old people can be stubborn af.

80+ year old in my office told someone to frick off when asked why he wasn't at home today.

What's the downside there? How long do you think each of them would have, on average, if the virus had not come around? A year, maybe two? So what if some liberal wants to call me a heartless bastard for saying this, but I would wager that summing up the current productiveness of all the victims gives you a net drain on society, and probably a fairly large one. Quit getting in the way and let the damn plague do its thing, man.

If you look at the charts for Philly vs St. Louis during the Spanish Flu outbreak you'll see that while Pjilly spiked much higher, it was also over much quicker.

it's hard to fathom, but nearly all of Europe, including the UK, is run by people crazier than US democrats.

I love how people are saying a country should try it. Look at Northern Italy. Imagine them not shutting down. It isn’t that hard to see it won’t work.
