That's not necessarily true--the rider could've taken certain steps in anticipation of the ride. Also, time = money. And the rider could've also forgone certain things, in including of course ordering another ride.

I'm flipping back to your side. Uber surge is just insane sometimes. Nawlins Cab has a good app and I have just used them when I need a ride.

That's what the 5 dollar credit was for

uber is awesome bc i had a driver get lost bc he was too busy on his phone and not following the navi, i contacted uber via email and the trip which was supposed to be $11-13 was $32 and they refunded me $19. They said they could see the route he took vs the route he was supposed to take and apologized.
I will say when I first used uber in 2013, it was a higher quality driver. I once had an engineer who said he drove at night bc he didnt like sitting at home with his wife, and another time a kid who was getting his masters degree. Today its all the nigerian guys from yellow cab, really driven down the quality of driver. Still though I love uber in miami, its awesome. The airport trip is $32 flat fee in a cab + tip. Its like $17 in uberx.

Yeah, I agree. The cars are getting crappier and the service is going downhill.
If stupid cab companies would accept credit cards they could become relevant again.

That's exactly what can happen with these rate cuts.

i'm fine with that, but not for the reason you stated (as I explained).

I'm for this when people cancel for no reason. I had a driver who refused to pick me up from the train station and kept telling me to find him on some street I couldn't find in an unfamiliar area. I cancelled finally, would have been horseshite to pay 5 bucks for his incompetence.

Last week I had a woman driving a 2003 Buick that was beat to shite. I complained to Uber and got a $25 credit. I wish there was a better way to monitor the quality of the vehicles.

I had a guy who admitted to just throwing $8 in tolls every time he went on Dallas north tollway because uber wasn't picking up all of the tolls. I made sure to check my rides a little closer.

I had a woman screw me over in Miami (accepted, then app said arriving when she most definitely was not, I called her, phone went straight to voice mail, she disappeared from map). They charged me 5 but credited me immediately after I explained what happened.
They are bringing heat to the cabs in Nola though. Last weekend, the surge was 2.5x at 6 a.m. when I needed a ride to the airport. United actually picked up the phone (no busy signals, no eternal hold) and had a cab with a professional driver outside my door in a timely matter. So thanks Uber.

I cancelled a ride last weekend after the drive apparently stopped at their own house or a friends for over 5 minutes. Uber charged me the $5, I contested and they credited my next ride. Hope that bitch loses her driving privileges after what she did.

Idk how new it is because I normally don't cancel. Apparently I was too drunk and missed my ride and they changed me a $5 cancelation fee.

So you actually want to talk to your Uber driver?

I live in a big city (where Uber is far easier than driving). In the past year, I have spent over 10K with Uber, with a big chunk of it being reimbursed by work. I have two major gripes with uber.
1. If you're going to make it your job (even if it is part time) to drive people from point to point through a big city, then you should have SOME familiarity with that city. I can't tell you how many times the drivers have no idea where major landmarks are, and are resigned to using less than accurate GPS units.
2. If you accept my ride, and it says you're 4 minutes away, but then proceed to drive in the wrong direction to come pick me up, increasing the time to 12 minutes, of course I'm going to cancel. I have contacted uber several times on this point and get the fee waived. But it really goes back to point 1...if you don't know the town you're driving in, probably best to seek other work.
