If they don't like the pay, they don't have to drive.

The average hourly profit for rideshare drivers is 3.87. A third lose money. The market will fix this because drivers wont drive for so little and fares will rise.
My last trip to LA I took a uber ride from LAX to Universal city. It was a $35 ride. In a cab it would have been $80. The driver take would be negative after wear and tear and taxes. That can't continue, but government regulations will make it worse.

Nevermind the people who relied on and followed the law and purchased taxi medallions
They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to follow the rules set in place and purchased medallions, and the worth of those medallions is comparable to what's happening with Venezualan currency.
Uber should have been forced to purchase medallions to operate in NYC, or the city should have purchased back those medallions.

Why doesn't a Cab company come up with an app, it would be a win win for those idiots that want it.
I've used the taxi app in Houston. Uber wanted 4x surge pricing. Taxi was standard.

It literally is always the case. An Uber/Lyft driver will not know your destination until they've arrived to pick you up.
I thought you were talking about taxis.
They know the fare total though though right?
I’ve never driven but I know friends that have and you can not accept rides, so there’s a way for Uber/ lyft to discrimate to some degree.

Interesting. But yes I meant to bring that up. Most taxis have flatter rate whereas ridesharing have surge pricing. If I’m somewhere around a big event a taxi can be cheaper.

As a full time Uber/Lyft driver, I have no words. On average I already make more than $15/hr in Baton Rouge of all places. The idiots always ruin things for everyone else that knows what they're doing I guess, that goes for all walks of life. Hopefully nothing comes of this

Imagine trying to draw sympathy for the Taxi business

Nope. The only time you know anything is if the ride is expected to be longer than 45 minutes. But you don't know the direction

and you can not accept rides
You can choose to not accept a request, but you don't have any info on the passenger besides their rating to decide on, and you have 10 seconds to decide.

I feel like Baton Rouge type markets should be a little more optimal for rideshare than a place like new york.

I know of some Uber drivers in Atlanta that do it full time that make damn near $70K a year because they bust their arse and work hard.
Considering the rate decreases of the past, that is rather surprising.

True. Not like taxis are big in BR, but theres still enough of a sizable population where theres still consistent rides.

Government involvement in the taxi business sucks and does a huge disservice to those small businesses drowning while trying to keep up with the crappy rules.
You know they could have lobbied that the regulations were hurting businesss and making the market uncompetitive.

Imagine how much money they could have made if they were out working instead of protesting at a hearing

He may have a car nice enough for premium or something. Not sure how an uberx driver could pull in that much. Guessing maybe 30% of uber riders tip. It's hard to get an uberx one way over 20 bucks in Atlanta.
