My wife is a clinical pharmacist at a hospital, and it seems that nurses make the most medical errors per capita, BY FAR, yet brag about themselves the most. Ask a risk manager which group of employees keeps him/her awake at night the most. Hint: It’s not doctors, pharmacists or the custodians.

Awesome. When the thread topic is medical errors, ask your wife how to respond. In the meantime this is about compensation so have a seat while the grown ups talk.

You asked for my tiktok, gtfo trying to act like you want to discuss RN wages and ratios. Your wisecrack fell short.

My statement stands. Unionized RNs have a better deal.

This is about travel nurse pay rates vs locals right?

Yea. I posted this in another thread. My friend works in the icu. Currently Uab nurses get 20 an hour in covid pay. So right now she’s making 45 an hour. Travelers are making 105 per hour. With covid pay set to go away, my friends rate will drop to 25 per hour. Travelers who work under contract will still remain at the 105 hour pay rate.

You said Alabama pays the shittiest wages. Not true. You said Alabama has THE WORST working conditions. I can’t dispute that off the cuff, but I seriously doubt nurses in Alabama have the lowest job satisfaction.

Unionization of workforce is rarely a good deal for the consumer. In this case, the consumer is healthcare recipients, so frick your unionization. Instead, be an employee that your current employer can’t live without and that all other employers wish they had. If you are that, no matter your profession, begging for a better salary isn’t necessary.

No what is insulting is not taking care of your employees while throwing the bank at contract workers. I’m a firm believer in taking care of your house and your family first. It makes zero sense to me to undercut your own employees by throwing money at people who don’t have a vested interest in your company

My hourly rate, for straight time day shift is 112.
I made 1.50 to be on pager now I make 60ish.

My statement stands. Unionized RNs get a better deal. You can make believe that the world is this utopian place where you get paid for how hard you try but that is just naive. Employment is transactional only. I want the highest wage, the best conditions, and the most protections. This is business. Nothing more nothing less.

I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t give shite what other careers pay or how they negotiate their deals. I support the UAB nurses because houses in Birmingham aren’t cheap and the wages are abysmal. If you don’t like them standing outside feel free to apply for their jobs. Just don’t be a patronizing a-hole because I said good for them. And don’t use your wife’s profession as proof you are an expert on the medical field, it’s silly.

Calling 25/hour abysmal, especially in Birmingham, is the perfect example of how out of touch nurses are and why no one takes them seriously.

Maybe so. I am damn lucky to have my job. But I couldn’t take care of my family the way I would like there making that wage. I want my kids to attend great schools. You can’t live in vestavia on $25 an hour.

The hospital pays what it pays. Shortages all over the country. If they would like a better wage sounds like they need to move or go back to school. Or be a traveler.

$50k a year isn’t amazing but it’s not abnormal for an undergrad degree either. Add in the overtime and you’re looking at 65k. Much better than someone with a history degree.

If you don’t want to clean up dog shite, don’t be a vet tech. If you don’t want to clean up shite and vomit, don’t work at a day care. If you don’t want to use a shovel, don’t work construction. If you don’t want to work the hours for a pandemic, then don’t be a fricking nurse. You did it to yourself. Quit, if you don’t like it. I hear McDonald’s and grub hub is hiring
