I barely dodged it earlier. Sat in traffic for about 10m on Essen before I got close enough to see the clusterfrick. People ahead of me were starting to get out of their cars. Managed to get over and jump back on the interstate, exit College, and loop back around.

If you’re on Siegen Ln going south, the box is under the I-10 overpass on the right side of the road. It’s between a curb and the retaining wall.
I could maybe see a car trying to hop the curb to go around stopped traffic under the overpass. It would be really stupid considering the layout with intersections on both sides, but people can indeed be pretty stupid.
What I don’t understand is how someone could hit it going fast enough to throw the box 10 feet off its concrete pad, while also spinning the car around 180 degrees to be facing into oncoming traffic.. on Siegen Lane, in rush hour traffic.

They’re turning lanes, not merging lanes. You aren’t supposed to use them for merging in the first place so yes, you would be at fault.
If you’re trying to turn left and there are enough lanes / enough traffic that you have to stop halfway, in my opinion you shouldn’t be trying to make that left turn anyway. Go right and find somewhere safe to turn around rather than potentially causing a wreck (and holding up the drivers behind you while you wait for an opportunity to make an uncontrolled left turn).

I think you’re missing my point.
I’m just saying it’s crazy that someone can get into a high speed collision on a street with 6 completely packed lanes of traffic moving at 2.5 mph.
