Two young Ohio sisters were fatally crushed this weekend in a freak hammock accident at their home.

Scout Scaravilli, 14, and her 12-year-old sister Chasey, of Cleveland Heights — about 8 miles northeast of Cleveland — were lying in a hammock tied to a tree when a brick pillar collapsed onto them Sunday, Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said, as reported by WJW Monday.

Around 7:45 p.m., officers and firefighters responded to the home after receiving a call about a girl who was trapped underneath bricks.

After they were freed, a rescue squad brought the sisters to a local hospital, where they died hours later.

More people 14 to 12 killed by hammocks than covid 19 this year in Ohio.

Police said the sisters were in a hammock that was tied to a tree and brick pillar when the pillar collapsed onto the girls. Once the pillar was removed and the two girls were freed, they were taken to a local hospital where they died several hours later, according to police.

All jokes aside, I really feel for the parents. I don't know if they have other children, but I know if my two daughters were taken from me suddenly at the same time, I'd lose the will to live.

Wtf kind of mason builds a brick pillar that can’t hold the weight of two teenage girls in a hammock? Contractors are such a bunch of deadbeats

Brick has a of compressive strength, but lateral loads like that are its weakness. Truly sad.
