My wild guess is it's a stalker. She may not even know him, but he's fixated on her. It's a problem with public figures, especially females. He hears she's engaged, and this is the result.

All the talk about death penalty and how long before it happens, we just recently saw a very similar case here in Baton Rouge of an ex-employee that cold bloodedly murdered his former coworkers while they begged for their lives. He received the death penalty about 18-20 years ago, just last month had the death penalty thrown out because of "incompetent defense". A new sentencing trial will have to be done.
Should have been executed about 2 days after his arrest.
