The ones grown off of the bottom are pretty damn awesome.
Agreed. Murder Points for instance are phenomenal but not what people think of when you say Gulf Oyster.
I don’t know of any off bottom oyster farms in Louisiana. If you do point me in their direction because I want to try them.

Crawfish prices are going to go up.

Just doesn’t seem like the name of a restaurant I would go to and trust eating the oysters there

Wastewater treatment, in Florida at least, is at capacity.

Louisiana used to have one of the best shellfish monitoring programs in this country but it was dismantled by our previous governors to save money.

What's wrong with Jan & Feb if we are just looking for cold weather months? I don't understand the saying.

I absolutely love raw oysters. I will not touch them between May and October. Thankfully, Rockefeller and Bienville invented the grill and parmesan cheese so that I could enjoy oysters in the summer months as well.

Those months have R’s in their spelling, and they are cold… peak oyster season. What are you confused about?

The Florida Department of Health says 26 people have become infected with the bacteria and six of them later died after eating raw shellfish, including oysters, so far this year. In 2021, 10 people died out of 34 people sickened. In 2020, there were seven deaths among the 36 who became ill.
Last week, a man in Pensacola died after contracting the bacteria from oysters he bought at a market, the Pensacola News Journal reported. That oyster also came from Louisiana, officials said.
I wonder what other underlying medical issues these people had

I absolutely love raw oysters. That's real tough to hear.
Also don't eat them in summer.

Not a fan of that. Might as well just order oyster casserole.

If I will only eat them October-March if they're fresh and from the Gulf.
The NW and NE oysters are completely different and you can probably eat them September-April. A lot of times they're found in Bays and Rivers. Virginia and NY has a lot in rivers. Water doesn't warm as rapidly due to weather.
