Like I said in that thread a few weeks ago, Sherwood Forest is changing fast. Our area has gone to absolute shite in the past 10-15 years or so. It's changed a lot since I was a kid. There's all these sketchy apartments around here now.

Thats the section east of S. Flannery. 41 yr old Sara Hernandez was murdered in July right by there at 13568 Goodwood Blvd.

Same here. It always scared me as it is surrounded by bad to the west and south. They changed the schools at the right time that increased the home values. Hooper/Glen Oaks and GS/Flannery were close to invading. It has held up well considering how long ago Monticello and Blackwater went downhill.

The schools definitely saved it. I think Tanglewood and Carmel Acres have gone downhill but I don't except the rest to anytime soon.

Left Baton Rouge in 1998 and for at least 10 years before that part of Goodwood across Flannery was really not safe. Those apartments right at the corner were full of sketchy people too.

Years ago Belaire area was developed similar to a neighborhood you could walk to the store, walk to schools, and start from apartments and the grow into owning a home.
They had the older smaller homes closer to North Sherwood or Engineers Road as it was called in old people days. Then they built apartments, duplexes, and finally the larger sq ft homes closer to Belaire. Then the final phase was the Woolco shopping Center that has been without an anchor store since a few years after it was built.
You now see how this worked out for the area?

My mom grew up in the Belaire area and went to Bellaire HS. Graduated in ‘79. She remarked about how fast the area declined, which for me was hard to understand. I lived in Fairwood Estates for 10 years, sold about 3 years ago and moved to Texas. It’s truly sad to see what was home turn into the shite pile it is now.
