This is going to show these companies that they can run much leaner and none of them will ever get that bloated again. It will also end the adult daycare offices they have.

They'll have to get recruited by a big time college football program to see those amenities again.

*Probably won't all go away. But investors will eventually get tired of the waste.

Why did Elon offer so much for a company that many now say was already doomed before he stepped in?

Because it's not?

Which tech companies of Twitter's scale are laying off 50-90% of their headcount, including engineers?

I will give you that it's not at the same scale, but maybe....JUUUUUUUUST MAYBE...they never needed that many people to begin with.

I was on Twitter earlier - was working perfectly fine.

The difference is the current ownership of those companies built that culture. It is their own creation.

Elon is purging the bad culture that doesn't want to be there and share his vision so he can bring in others that fit in. You act like he won't be able to replace the ones that quit or get fired yet somehow he has great engineers working for him in his other companies. Engineers that handle way more complicated stuff than a social media platform.

Absolutely. Hopefully this makes its way over to the VC world too.

Need to catch up on the last few pages, but the thought that twitter is equivalent of some dude running a Wordpress blog in his moms basement is pretty funny.

You don’t need an HR department though.

I think his point was Elon isn’t the business genius many here believe him to be
So Elon is bad at running companies now?

I mean he oversaw the building of Tesla's tech platform from scratch. This goes from the app to the nav to the networking. Oh, and a functioning AI program that developed driverless cars.

So whatever backend is necessary to keep Twitter going, he has already built that for a fleet of interconnected driving cars.

If you take him for what he says, he has been sleeping at the Twitter office helping to code some of the new and upcoming features himself well into the night.

Yeah, but this is in the event that Twitter does fail spectacularly, though I think that chance is remote.

Also, now that I think about it, if he's going to be building everything into one app, eventually all of these Twitter "experts" will become dinosaurs b/c I'm sure he's going to build Twitter off of Tesla/Starlink and not vice versa.

Liquidate most of Twitter staff and move to HQ to Texas and rehire a staff more suited to his work ethic.

Weather the storm and keep twitter going until then. It’s not like users are boycotting it in droves. Engagement was actually up. He’s dealing with a staff mutiny in an era where their skill set went from being scarce and cutting edge to much more common place.

Worst case Twitter dies and one less divisive social media entity exists and funny enough it will actually crush many of the controversial media websites that strive on the free link distribution they get through Twitter…

He wants you to be able to rideshare through Twitter. He also owns a company that builds cars and is betting heavily on driverless cars.

See where he is going? "X" is going to do everything he says.

Video features and long form tweets are coming very soon he said on top of monetization for content creators. That will kill people from linking Youtube on Twitter if they can just upload to Twitter and monetize it there.

I have to believe he has a plan that will work out in the long term. Like him or not he has been very successful up til this point.

That being said no one is immune to making a bad business deal.
