NEW: Twitter just alerted employees that effective immediately, all office buildings are temporarily closed and badge access is suspended. No details given as to why.

We're hearing this is because Elon Musk and his team are terrified employees are going to sabotage the company. Also, they're still trying to figure out which Twitter workers they need to cut access for.

Offices will reopen on November 21st. In the meantime: "Please continue to comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere."

Not sure how you are supposed to run a company if you don't trust any of the employees.

I would love for Elon to make twitter less of a cesspool, but it really seems like he came into this without any sort of a plan

Here's someone with a little more context:

quote:

What I’m hearing from Twitter employees; It looks like roughly 75% of the remaining 3,700ish Twitter employees have not opted to stay after the “hardcore” email.

Even though the deadline has passed, everyone still has access to their systems.

As we’re all very aware, folks on visas are stuck, so thats who makes up most of the roughly 25% (or less than 1,000….) expected to stay. The actual impact is not yet known — there have been no internal comms about what comes next. We’re nearly 2 hours post deadline.

Update: Employee’s badge access has been disabled until Monday. It does seem like there will be … not much left of the company by then.

Lets put this into perspective — at the beginning of this month, Twitter had 7,400 employees. Barely half way through the month, if 75% do actually stick to their decision today, the company will have shrunk by a whopping ~88%.

Something I can now add: 10% of the 3,700ish remaining employees deemed critical were called to a meeting an hour before the 5PM deadline today. The invite was sent around midnight but got cancelled by noon.

Well according to his own employees, Twitter is commie as all hell, so of course you can’t trust them. Fire everyone, including the janitor.

Twitter should be able to operate with 100 employees or less. Just pay them well

I think they probably need more than that for ad sales, but yeah, I can see not needing an army to run the basic tech platform if they have enough things outsourced.

Elon doing a speed run on how to run a company into a ground

1) buy a company.

2) revenue is 90% ads

3) scare off advertisers who spend money

4) bring in new monetization that barely covers that cost (Twitter Blue would have to be $44 a month)

5) fire and lower employee morale

6) publicly feud with employees

7) bring in Tesla employees to work on Twitter after hours WTF

8) immediately end immensely popular WFH policy

9) ask remaining employees to work longer hours

10) lockout employees without warning

What you Lefties don’t understand is that either way what Elon did was good and will lead to a better country and general discourse. Either Elon makes Twitter a free speech platform and it thrives or he runs it into the ground and destroys it. Either way, the world is a much better place than it was a few months ago before Elon was on the table of running it. There’s no possible scenario where the freedom minded and decent people lose.

I am 100% in support of Elon cleaning up Twitter, but you can’t run it with 100 employees as was suggested.

That is a major technical endeavor and you have to be able to develop future releases and debug issues as they pop up, sell ads, run accounting, etc.

More Twitter hilarity: Elon fired employee who flipped out over him giving a blue check to Libs of TikTok and directly tweeting to Libs trolling elderly nursing home patient Taylor Lorenz:

tOT would be pointing and laughing at any other CEO, but tOT being tOT, has elevated Elon to Taylor Swiftian fanboy heights.

I think his point was Elon isn’t the business genius many here believe him to be. Twitter is a cesspool, but a so-called genius paid $45 billion for it and didn’t seem to have a coherent plan to make it a free speech oasis.
