Unless I am misreading this, doesn't this mean India is demanding Twitter do MORE censoring of their users content? We need less of that in this country.

shite, the government is taking notes at how effectively the social media platforms have crushed all dissent (and competition).

ok
and now you want that same government to regulate them more?
all in the name of safety or whatever?

You can still do that depending on the state. You can mail a VHS/dvd/8track/MP4 to everyone if it is a one party consent state. Once you step out of your front door your life isn't private.

Gone.
Guess you could call that the most extreme for of regulation.

So is "public square"
I still fail to see the similarities.

all social media? at what point is the measure for "too big"?
what defines social media?
seems to me like Scruffy is wanting to kill the internet

Not sure how Twitter and Facebook ever received this immunity in the first place. The world would be a better place without both platforms.

I don't know what to tell you then
people advocating for this are literally advocating for heavier censorship
its bizarre

Twitter/social media is either a public square or publisher.
When twitter edits/deletes content arbitrarily, they are no longer a public square. They are a publisher... like the new york times or cnn. This should open twitter (like the NYT or CNN) to liability lawsuits for defamation, libel, etc..
The problem is that social media is enjoying government protection from liability claims without earning it (free speech)

I disagree 100%
They are advocating a publisher should be treated like a publisher. Social media platforms abuse their government granted immunities. They dont deserve them.

so Chicken/TD is a publisher?

We can define it once we have our first planning session.

For real though,Twitter needs to be erased.

well you can disagree with it all you want, but it is exactly what would happen
it would absolutely stifle the free exchange of ideas

at what point do they become a publisher? give me an absolute objective measure to codify

so Chicken/TD is a publisher?
Chicken doesn't delete content based on political ideology.
Twitter most certainly does.
